Your attitude about mathematics will play a big role in shaping your students' attitude about mathematics. Their attitude will shape their identity with mathematics.
Be open, vulnerable, honest, and curious. It's far more important than being correct and loaded with strategies.

Try these small acts of self respect for 30 days and you'll start 2023 with a completely different mentality.

A Tale of Two Kids:
So, some of you have heard me say that my nephew was identified for reading intervention in first grade. He was "below level" on a benchmark assessment system. So he was put in a leveled intervention that focused on three-cueing. You see... (1/x)

In ~2 minutes, @natwexler explains the risk of a pendulum swing around the Science of Reading if we can’t bring the research on comprehension into the conversation.

I rarely tweet politics, but I am ANGRY. It's one thing for @Sflecce and @fordnation to want to engage in voter pandering. Where are the advisors and watchdogs on this? Why is nobody stopping this blatant bribery/cut to our schools? #onted #EQAO #Catchuppayments

Students are constantly feeling rushed. Before they’re able to master a skill or concept, they get assessed and are told to move on. It leads to high anxiety and a low sense of self worth. We need to worry less about “staying on pace” and care more about depth of understanding.

My mom made a great point when she asked "where are the convoys against gun violence?"

Imagine believing that books pose a greater threat to children than poorly regulated access to guns. We are lost.

You're a student and on the first day of class you're handed a list of rules (on which you had no input) and penalties for violating them. Excited about learning yet?

Instead of limiting students to following a lock-step writing process where everyone moves at the same pace, encourage Ss to follow a process that works for them. This will increase independence and agency and provide a more authentic writing experience #LiteracyTipTuesday

I can’t believe that Ford and Lecce’s plan is tutoring.
At risk kids deserve support during school hours so they can spend their time after school being part of their community in a way that fills their spirit.
Tutoring, outside of the classroom, isn’t it.
