It’s a lazy weekend , and I just finished putting up the Capstone project for the students at @thesollnetwork_ for Web 3 Security
I would be joining them to answer my own questions, let’s see how it goes 😂
N/B they are beginner level and was not expected to be complex
Week 3 of my Web3 Security class 🛡
Previous week we covered something responsible for most Web3 hacks
Smart contract vulnerabilities
If you understand this, you’re already ahead of many beginners
Here’s what every security-minded builder should know🧵 (Powd By @thesollnetwork_
Next:
Integer overflow & underflow
Smart contracts store numbers with fixed limits.
Example:
255 + 1 = 0
If developers don’t handle this correctly, attackers can manipulate balances or bypass restrictions.
Small math bug → massive financial impact.
First:
What is a smart contract?
A smart contract is simply a program running on the blockchain that automatically executes rules involving digital assets.
Think of it like a vending machine:
Insert payment → get result
No middleman needed.

Most people entering Web3 think security is about avoiding scams.
It’s not.
Web3 security is about understanding cryptography, keys, and code that controls billions of dollars.
Here’s what beginners must understand

But Web3 security isn’t just cryptography.
It’s also secure coding.
Smart contracts control millions (sometimes billions) in assets.
Common vulnerabilities:
• Reentrancy attacks
• Integer overflow
• Broken access control
One bug can drain an entire protocol.
Another core concept: Hashing
Hashing converts data into a unique digital fingerprint
Example:
Input → Hello
Output →
185f8db32271fe25f561a6fc938b2e264306ec304eda518007d1764826381969
Even the smallest change produces a completely different result
This secures blockchain data.
Every crypto wallet is built on key pairs.
Two keys are generated:
Public Key → your wallet address
Private Key → your ownership proof
Public key = safe to share
Private key = total control
Whoever controls the private key controls the assets.
Most people entering Web3 think security is about avoiding scams.

Starting off with Security Education and learning the ground basics
Last week I covered a Class on Basics of Web 3 Security and the initial threats involved.
Thanks to @ib_soll This would would be a 5 week session and we hope to impact knowledge and also grow while at it

It’s been wonderful doing Web 3 Education at @socscuniport @suioncampus
As they hit their anniversary milestone ✨
I was honored and graced with a Certification for my wonderful works and service offered during my time at the great Club
It’s All Greatness !
