🚨 FRANCE IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE THE NEXT MAJOR CRISIS IN EUROPE. And it is not just about politics. France is now getting hit by a bond selloff, exploding borrowing costs, fuel shortages, violent protests and foreign investors pulling money out. France’s 10-year yield briefly touched 5%, its highest level since 2002. The spread over German bonds has exploded toward 150 basis points, levels not seen since the eurozone debt crisis. France’s 5-year CDS has also surged from around 34 bps in early September to almost 80 bps. That is more than a 130% increase in less than a month. And the fiscal numbers explain why investors are nervous. France is carrying roughly €3.5 TRILLION of government debt. The European Commission expects debt to hit 118.1% of GDP this year and exceed 120% next year, while the deficit remains around 5% of GDP. Now comes the dangerous part. Foreign investors own more than half of France’s government debt. So France needs global investors to keep buying enormous amounts of bonds while confidence in its finances is deteriorating. And one major Japanese investor just walked away. Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management sold its entire position in French government bonds, moving the money primarily into German Bunds and some short term Japanese government debt. Not trimmed. Exited completely. The fund specifically cited concerns about France’s fiscal situation. Japan matters because rising Japanese yields are changing the equation for investors who spent years searching overseas for better returns. Once currency hedging is included, French bonds now offer Japanese investors an effective yield of roughly 3.3%, around the same as domestic Japanese government bonds. Why take French political and fiscal risk when yields back home are becoming competitive? And France’s problems don't stop with bonds. Fuel supply is under pressure again. As of October 4, 12% of French fuel stations were experiencing shortages of at least one type of petrol or diesel, with the figure reaching 20% in Grand Est and 18% in Pays de la Loire. Then there is the unrest. Student protests have spread across France and turned increasingly violent. Around 5,000 people have been arrested in a week. More than 600 police officers have been injured. Schools have been attacked, riot police have clashed with protesters, and the Paris police chief now describes the movement as “out of control.” At the same time, public sector strikes are pushing back against government budget cuts. So look at what is happening simultaneously: 10Y yield: highest since 2002. France-Germany spread: near euro-crisis levels. CDS: more than doubled in a month. Debt: roughly €3.5 trillion. Foreign bondholders: more than 50%. Japanese money: beginning to pull back. Fuel shortages: hitting parts of the country. Protests: thousands arrested. Budget: tens of billions in savings being demanded. And ratings agencies are watching. Moody’s still has France at Aa3 with a negative outlook, with its next rating decision scheduled for October 23. This is what makes the situation dangerous. France has to convince investors to keep financing one of the largest sovereign debt markets in Europe while borrowing costs rise, debt keeps growing and political pressure makes spending cuts harder to deliver. If foreign demand weakens further, France may have to offer even higher yields to attract buyers. Higher yields mean higher interest costs. Higher interest costs make the deficit harder to control. And a harder to control deficit can push investors to demand even higher yields. That is the feedback loop France cannot afford to let start feeding on itself.

AI's impact on the labor market is no longer theoretical. In the most AI-exposed industries, job losses are accelerating (especially compared to their pre-AI trend growth). AI resistant industries continue to add jobs. As the year progresses, expect this wedge to grow.

We bought back Circle $Crcl today and pressed our positions in $Nbis, $Ibit, and $Be. $Pltr looks interesting here as software has been under pressure because of AI and they report earnings Monday. $Wulf is also interesting in the data center space that we are considering.

Before I walked away from corporate life in 2021, I used to sit at my desk and price out cross-country road trips. I had a Cybertruck on preorder and kept wondering… “What would that actually feel like?” Now we’re living it. And it’s beating every expectation. When I left, my net worth was ~$2.7M. I modeled the lifestyle, kept expenses around $100k/year, and knew I could go even lower if needed. I watched all the Mr money mustache and all the FIRE content. 5 years later after 500k of spend, My all-in $TSLA position is basically flat… but my net worth is now over $4M thanks to selling premium. This was always the goal — leave the 9-5 so I could actually live like this. Freedom > golden handcuffs.

SOMEONE JUST BUILT A PERSONAL AI DASHBOARD WITH CLAUDE AND IT DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A TOOL. It feels like an operating system for their entire life. One screen. Their calendar. Their tasks. Their goals. Their content pipeline. Their finances. Their health metrics. All connected. All updated in real time. All queryable in plain English. Not ten apps talking past each other. One intelligent surface that knows everything and surfaces what matters. They described what they wanted to Claude Design. Claude built the entire interface. Then they connected it to Opus 4.7 as the reasoning layer. Now instead of opening five apps to answer one question they just ask the dashboard. This is what personal computing looks like when the interface finally understands you. The people building their own AI OS right now will look back at this moment the way the first iPhone users looked back at 2007. You are early.

Don't pay $100/month for the Claude Max plan. These 12 hacks save your tokens (and your wallet): —— (read all 23 token hacks: teapawt.org/rubenhassid/status/204…) ——— 1: You upload PDFs raw. One page = 3,000 tokens. Fix: Paste the text into a Google doc. Download as .md format. Under 200 tokens. 2: You use Opus for a grammar check. Fix: Haiku for quick tasks. Sonnet for writing & coding. Opus for deep reasoning only. 3: You leave Search & Connectors on by default. Fix: Default everything off. Turn features on per task, not per account. 4: You build files inside Cowork too early. Fix: Plan in Chat (cheap). Build the final output in Cowork (expensive). 5: You write 500-word prompts. Fix: Write 29 words instead: "I want to [task] to [goal]. Ask me questions using AskUserQuestion before you start." 6: You send 3 separate messages for 3 tasks. Fix: One message, three tasks. "Summarize this, list the points, suggest a headline." 7: You type "No, I meant," stacking on the history. Fix: Click 'Edit' on your original message. Fix it. Regenerate. History replaced, not stacked. 8: You say "redo the whole thing" to correct part 3. Fix: "Only redo section 3. Keep everything else. No commentary. Just the output." 9: You never restart. Your chat hits 30 messages. Fix: Every 15-20 messages → summarize, copy the brief, start a fresh session. 10: You keep 3 topics in 1 chat. It re-reads all of it. Fix: New topic = new chat. Always. Dead context is dead tokens. 11: You skip Personal Preferences Fix: Settings → Personal Preferences. Set your tone and style once. It persists forever. Don't waste 3-5 setup messages per chat. 12: You upload the same PDF to 5 different chats. Fix: Use Projects. Upload once. Every new chat references it without re-burning tokens. ----- To download all of my Claude infographics: Step 1. Go to how-to-ai.guide. Step 2. Subscribe for free. Don't pay anything. Step 3. Open my welcome email (most skip this). Step 4. Hit the automatic reply button inside. Step 5. Download my infographics from my Notion. Bonus. Enjoy my best copy-paste prompts, too.

Something we do in our home is use a kitchen safe. Family time starts at 4pm and we put phones in the safe until the kids go to sleep. Your best parenting happens when your phone is out of reach.
Parents - put your phones out of sight when you’re with your kids. I really mean this. Especially at home. Treat it like a landline and “hang it up” in one place. (Wife and I have a little holder for them in the kitchen) When you need to check it, go over to where it’s placed and look at it, then walk away. Do not carry it around like a digital pacifier. Be present without it in sight. I guarantee this will make a huge impact on their childhood experience.

Somehow not heard this Zanger video before. From September 2015, but only has 3k views in 10½ years! Interesting to hear him talk about situational awareness here. It’s not that you can’t make money in other conditions, but know when your truly fat pitch comes along. Zanger seemed truly content to just sit in cash until that big opportunity appeared, at a time when market cycles were much slower. youtube.com/watch?v=IsnbyyXV…
