🙏🏾🧡💛😍 we absolutely love working with mentors and summer programs!
As a reviewer of many a broader impacts statement I often see great ideas that lack modern best practices for supporting vulnerable groups (like properly hosting summer students). YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE AN EXPERT- HIRE ONE! And this expert right👇🏽 is legit.

To anyone feeling hesitant about submitting #GradSchool applications, DO IT! A PhD is a TRAINING program. It’s ok that you’re not an expert. It’s ok that you’re nervous and uncertain. You will grow your skills, gain new knowledge, and develop with time. So SUBMIT THOSE APPS‼️

Yikes. This attitude is incredibly meritocratic and toxic. Assessments are rarely in sync with the knowledge students should and do walk away from a course with. Which also means that this particular standard of excellence isn’t grounded in anything practical or equitable 🧐
I’m seeing a growing number of students complain: “My grade doesn’t reflect the effort I put into the course.” Public service announcement: You don’t get an A for effort. You earn it for excellence. Success is measured by the level of mastery you show, not how hard you work.

Standing with all the researchers striking today ❤️ so proud of all of you, and I'm looking forward to the much-needed change that will come out of this movement.
“We’re trying to make transformational changes to our working conditions that will in turn impact the quality of research and education,” said Sweeney, the union leader. “The issues we face are similar to other workers in this country.” #FairUCNow washingtonpost.com/business/…

If you are recruiting a cohort of PhD students and want your applicant pool to be diverse and inclusive, DROP YOUR GRE REQUIREMENT. Students at the minority-serving institution where I work are ABSOLUTELY taking schools off their list if they require the GRE.

To celebrate @CarolynBertozzi being awarded the #Nobleprize2022 (and being the first openly LGBTQIA+ recipient of the #ChemNobel), I've compiled a list of #CarolynQuotes from her last grad-level ChemBio course @UCB_Chemistry that I had the pleasure of taking! 🧵👇
BREAKING NEWS: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2022 #NobelPrize in Chemistry to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.”
