When I was in the @UKLabour you didn’t need an undercover reporter to uncover #racism - it stared me in the face daily!
Labour’s own leadership commissioned the #FordeReport - a damning indictment of the party. Recommendations followed. Stakeholders met. Yet, from what I witnessed, those discussions delivered no meaningful change.
Having experienced racism in Labour firsthand, I find its attacks on @reformparty_uk deeply hypocritical. Labour should address its own failures before claiming the moral high ground.

Farage meets Journet in taxpayer-funded council offices to discuss crime and safety. Then let’s talk about women’s safety.
❗ How did Reform allow women to be physically abused at its own conference?
❗ Journet was arrested on suspicion of stalking and harassment. Police subsequently took no further action. That outcome must be acknowledged, but it does not prevent questions about his conduct or Reform’s handling of complaints.
❗ There are allegations that female officers have lodged a catalogue of complaints against him over 18 months.
❗ There are allegations that female officers are on sick leave because of Journet-related stress.
❗ Journet is accused of making multiple threats and unfounded allegations against women over 18 months.
📰 Where are the Echo’s questions about any of that?
A visit about safety should be an opportunity to demand answers about these allegations, not simply an opportunity for another photograph.
Women’s safety cannot matter only when Reform can use it to attack somebody else.
Local journalism should challenge powerful people, not give them a free pass. When the difficult questions go unasked, the public is let down.
💷 And I expect Reform UK to pay for the use of the council offices and any officer time used for what I regard as a party-political event.
Publish the costs. Explain who authorised it. Tell residents who is paying.
Basildon taxpayers should not be subsidising Reform’s publicity. And women’s concerns should not be pushed aside for a photo opportunity.
