How many nones are there? Simple question, right? Gallup says it's 21%. The Cooperative Election Study says it's 36%. The Gallup figure yields 54M nones. The CES estimate yields 93M. Meanwhile, Pew says it's 29% and the GSS reports 28%. Social science is hard.

In India, the prevailing view is that there is one God “with many manifestations” (54%). But about one-third of the public says simply: “There is only one God” (35%). Far fewer say there are many gods (6%). Views vary among religious groups. pewrsr.ch/3tNBvh8

In China, formal religious identity has been fairly stable since 2010. Around 10% of Chinese adults identified with any religion (zongjiao), per the 2018 CGSS. But the share who participate in activities that may be considered religious is much higher. pewrsr.ch/45tJZYQ

Most demographic projections use the cohort-component method. The complexity increases with additional demographic factors (e.g. religious affiliation). Though they require more computing power, microsimulations allow greater flexibility and nuance. wesleywildman.com/wordpress/…
