The man that “Pershing Square” is named after hunted Pancho Villa and contributed to the massacre of Native Americans during the Ghost Dance war.
Now activists want it renamed @RenamePershing #LosAngeles #DTLA #socialjustice

LA folks, there is a local campaign to rename Pershing Square to Lawson Square, after Reverend James Lawson, a civil rights icon!

This morning a coalition of community organizations held a press conference to rename Pershing Square. General Pershing was in charge of the “Mexican Punitive Expedition” to help crush the Mexican Revolution and kill Pancho Villa, massacring hundreds. @LATACO @RenamePershing

One of my favorite things about #MayDay (& other rallies/actions) is the amount of real life organizing that happens. There are tons of things we’re all working on, & we aren’t always plugged into everything.
