On the last night of the 2026 legislative session, the House said farewell to members who won't be returning next year.
@repmcentee33, at times holding back tears, told @RepCraven, "you are a man of integrity and compassion, Bob. Your door is always open." She talked about Rep. Craven's calming influence on challenging issues, and how his singular goal was to help people. As she outlined some of the legislation Rep. Craven has helped pass, she noted that his "input in this room has touched countless pieces of consequential legislation and changed lives throughout Rhode Island. I know I will miss you deeply and dearly....thank you for your extensive legal knowledge, and your steadfast commitment to justice and bettering Rhode Island. When you leave this chamber, you know that you made a difference in so many lives."
Rep. McEntee also introduced a resolution in Rep. Craven's honor: webserver.rilegislature.gov/…

Replying to @Globe_RI
@Globe_RI: House Judiciary Committee @RepCraven, a North Kingstown Democrat, advocated for the bill, recalling poignant testimony from the police chief in Newtown. Conn., soon after Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. Lanza used an AR-15-style rifle, a type of gun that would be banned by this bill.
Craven said the debate comes down to balancing constitutional rights with trying to save lives, and he said even former US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has acknowledged that Second Amendment rights are not unlimited.
In a statement after the vote, the House sponsor, @Rep_Jason, noted that assault-style weapons were used in mass shootings such as those in Uvalde, Texas; Parkland, Fla.; and Las Vegas, Nevada.
“They are the preferred weapon of mass shooters because their sole purpose is to vastly increase the magnitude of death and destruction their user can inflict,” he said. “We don’t need them here in Rhode Island.”
Knight, a Barrington Democrat, urged the Senate to pass the bill “and make this the year we take action to end the proliferation of powerful weapons that enable mass shooters to kill as many victims as possible.”

The House today approved legislation introduced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman @RepCraven that would allow vehicle registration and titling to be conducted online.
The legislation would allow for the online registration and titling of motor vehicles, similar to what currently happens with registration renewals.
“A simple fact of life is that no one likes going to the DMV. This bill will save people time and frustration by allowing individuals and businesses to register and title their vehicles online through a secure electronic process. People shouldn’t have to take time-consuming trips to the DMV for the simple task of registering their vehicle and the state should be using technology to make our residents’ lives easier and more convenient. It’s a common-sense bill that will improve the quality of life for Rhode Islanders, while also easing the traffic at the DMV for individuals and businesses that have more complicated matters to handle,” said Chairman Craven.

House Judiciary Chairman @RepCraven and Senate Judiciary Chairman @LaMountainfor31 joined advocates at the State House on Wednesday to introduce and advocate for the passage of the Victims of Crime Trauma Informed Mobilization (V.I.C.T.I.M.) Act.
“Funding for victim service organizations has been consistently underfunded on the federal and state level for decades, and without the funding needed to operate these dedicated organizations, individuals who have experienced devastating and life-altering crimes are left on their own, without hope, support or the ability to overcome the significant trauma they have experienced. By passing the V.I.C.T.I.M. Act, Rhode Island will establish a dedicated fund to assist and support victims of serious crimes, which is the right thing to do,” said Chairman Craven.

We often focus on those who commit crimes, how they should be judged, sentenced, & rehabilitated. But we cannot forget that many crimes have a victim. By investing in victim support services, we strengthen our communities and ensure that every survivor has the resources to heal.

Earlier today, @RepCraven and Sen. @LaMountainfor31 hosted a press conference, in partnership with 27 victim service organizations, to highlight legislation they are sponsoring to protect critical services for victims of crime.
The Victims of Crime Trauma Informed Mobilization Act (V.I.C.T.I.M. Act) would create a dedicated $30M funding allocation to support the approximately 42,000 Rhode Islanders who receive victim services each year. The bill calls for the establishment of a VICTIM Fund grant program to administer the funds to qualified direct service nonprofits.
