Today, for the second time in less than a week, Congressional offices across the Chicago area, including ours, received additional pieces of suspicious mail. We were alerted by another office who was first to identify the suspicious mail. I am always grateful for the extraordinary commitment of our local police and fire departments to the safety of my team and our community. I know the FBI is already investigating last week’s letter, and I am confident they will do the same for the most recent incident. Those responsible, once identified, must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Everyone deserves to live openly and freely. This LGBTQ+ History Month, we celebrate the generations of LGBTQ+ people who have fought for equality and helped move our country forward. We honor their history and continue the work by strengthening protections against discrimination and ensuring equal rights under the law.

This morning, I joined a bipartisan, bicameral call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where we heard an update on the war with Russia. President Zelensky emphasized the potential dire impact of both President Trump’s decision to waive sanctions on Russia and failure to meet Ukraine’s need for uninterrupted access to Starlink services and more Patriot interceptor missiles. We were all left wondering what is preventing the Administration from supplying our ally with the munitions they need as they fend off Putin’s aggression and growing threats to Ukraine... and all of Europe. Members of Congress — House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans — must remain committed to supporting Ukraine and its people as they defend their independence and sovereignty against the illegal Russian onslaught. Polish Americans make up nearly 6% of the U.S. population—a deep and long-lasting community that has brought rich history, traditions, and contributions to our nation. During Polish American Heritage Month, I am proud to represent a district with a vibrant Polish American community and to join in celebrating their enduring impact on our country.

Yesterday, we saw the first reports of threatening mail with suspicious substances being sent to Congressional offices in the U. S. Capitol and across the country. Today, more offices, including mine, received these letters. They tested the letter and confirmed it did not contain any harmful substances. The space was deemed ‘all clear’ after a couple of hours. I am very grateful for the swift response of local law enforcement and fire department personnel and thankful that my team and the building is safe. Anyone or any group who thinks they can scare or intimidate Members of Congress or our teams from doing our job and work on behalf of the people we represent is sorely mistaken.

Costs continue to rise, from housing and groceries to gas, making it more and more difficult for families to make ends meet or have enough left over to save for their future. My heart broke to hear of another school shooting and murder of innocent children. Another mass shooting forever changing a community. We cannot let this be normal. I stand with the families and community in their grief, hope that those receiving care can fully recover, and thank law enforcement for their swift action. We cannot continue to allow families and communities to be torn apart by gun violence. I am grateful @CongressmanRaja, his family, and the members of the temple are all safe. Everyone deserves to practice their faith safely without fear or threat of violence. Unfortunately, Illinois is no stranger to gun violence or the dangerous climate that white supremacy creates. We must drive out the hate and bigotry that fuels these horrifying attempts and threats of violence.

Everyone deserves access to the medical supplies that will improve their quality of life and improve their well-being. Unfortunately, the new rule from CMS making ostomy and urological medical supplies part of a competitive bidding program undermines this goal. I’m glad to introduce the bipartisan Access to Medical Supplies Act with @RepGregMurphy to block this rule and ensure everyone has access to the medical supplies they need.

A true leader delivers support and funds to the communities they serve and who look up to them, regardless of zip code or state line. Politicizing the release of emergency funds to help recover from a natural disaster is extremely dangerous and morally wrong. I stand with Governor Pritzker and my Illinois Congressional colleagues in calling out this attack on our communities, and we will continue to work together to find avenues to deliver the relief and support our shared constituents need and deserve to rebuild and recover.

Nearly five years since the start of Russia’s unprovoked, illegal war against Ukraine, President Trump inexplicably continues to side with Putin and his anti-democracy agenda. Trump has had the power to impose sanctions on Russia and bring an end this war. He has chosen to do neither. Now, as diesel prices in the U.S. shoot up over $6 a gallon, the President is filling Putin’s coffers by lifting sanctions and allowing the United States to buy Russian diesel. I will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to block Trump’s purchases of Russian oil and stand with Ukraine in its fight for independence, sovereignty, and the West’s security.

I’ve long called out Pete Hegseth’s unbridled incompetence and idiocy, but his blood lust rises to a new level. His reprehensible plan to livestream a public execution is a ready-made recruiting tool for our enemies, whether it’s ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or Hezbollah. Broadcasting the execution—by firing squad no less—will only drive more radicalization and more hate towards America, endangering our national security and our men and women defending our nation.
