Twenty years ago I was drugged at a bar while studying abroad in Argentina. I ended up alone with a male classmate who sat next to me until sunrise while I slept it off in the booth of a 24hr diner. Some men are beyond decent. It mattered a lot. Thanks, Devin.

Because People Change. Circumstances Change. Relationships Change. Interests Change. The Person You Trust Today May Still Be Trustworthy Tomorrow—But Your Organization Shouldn't Collapse Simply Because One Relationship Changes.

Trust may be one of the most undervalued forms of capital. In finance and business we measure almost everything: returns, risk, productivity, leverage, margins. Yet the value of people who behave correctly when nobody is watching rarely appears on a balance sheet. And still, when things go wrong, that invisible capital can become more valuable than many assets we spent years measuring. Competence creates value. Integrity protects it. Trust compounds it over time. #Leadership #Finance #Trust #CorporateGovernance

They are rare. Such relationships take time to build and can only be built if you treat such people well. #principleoftheday

Costco co-founder Jim Sinegal: "We all know the difference between right and wrong. We're taught that very early on. It's really not that significant a challenge to try to figure out which way you should come down on an issue. The answer, of course, is having the courage to do that even if it's going to be very costly to you." "It would have been just as easy — and much more profitable — to just take the opposite position. We didn't. We felt our word to our employees was much more important than the money that was involved in this."

HR: “I’ve never seen them act like that”. Of course you haven’t, you weren’t their target Just a friendly reminder that toxic people don't mistreat everyone they come in contact with, so placing doubt on victims based on your experience with that person is irresponsible.

You can’t expect the benefit of the doubt during a crisis if you haven’t built trust long before it arrives. Credibility isn’t something you can manufacture when the pressure is already on.

Reputation is capital. Relationships are capital. Connections are capital. The real game isn’t just building them, it’s knowing how to protect them, nurture them, and leverage them wisely. Because sometimes, who knows you and what they trust you with can be more valuable than what you own. 💯

Your name is an asset. Long after a conversation ends, people remember whether they could trust you, depend on you and confidently recommend you to others. Protect your reputation like you protect your money. One careless action can damage years of trust.

Without accountability, a relationship eventually becomes a liability. Trust may start the relationship, but accountability is what keeps it healthy.

Being the smartest person in the room won't save a career built on a bad reputation. Be reliable. Keep your word. Give credit. Own mistakes. Skills may get you opportunities, but trust determines whether people want to work with you again.

People who struggle with trust don't distrust you specifically. They distrust the version of themselves that trusted before and got it wrong. They're not protecting themselves from you. They're protecting themselves from their own judgment.

In Japan, if you use a word wrong, someone will quietly teach you the correct one. In Texas, I thanked a mechanic by saying "you are a good man of the trucks." He did not correct me. He put it on his voicemail. "You've reached Ray. Good man of the trucks." His son answers the phone that way now.

The fire alarm accidentally went off while this football team was training in the gym. Firefighters showed up, made sure everything was good, and then one of them decided to hop on the bench and start repping 225. The entire gym went insane.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp on the false religion of frontier labs: “Philosophically it's wrong because it's not doomer versus not-doomer; it's a hyper-religion of hyper-optimism.” “They believe all problems — present, past, and future, including the ones they create and don't acknowledge they create — are going to be solved by them, including human nature and disparities.” “Enterprises are just fed up because they know this doesn't actually work this way. It's not working. And that basically drives our commercial business.”
