At last year’s Moral March on Washington, @RevLetiah reminded us that the challenges our communities face are manufactured crises: “Kansas cares more about legislating away a woman's autonomy … than it does about … access to food & housing. This is legislating death.”

On this day in 2012, George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin while he was walking home from a store. Zimmerman claimed he looked "suspicious" because he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt. To overcome racial inequality, we must confront our history. calendar.eji.org/racial-inju…

I am not over 1/6. I will never be over 1/6. The only way to move beyond it is to deal with what caused it and what has been left in its wake.

Many Christians are having a faith crisis because what we were taught to believe growing up is not what we are witnessing from our churches today.
What is more, when we try to point out that reality, we are villainized rather than our experience taken seriously. It’s isolating.

If a group of Elders/Pastors from a denomination gathered together to write their own Articles of Faith, which will differ from the denomination’s own AOFs, you’d assume they were starting their own denomination too, right?

That a family had to lose a son, brother and father; that a teenage girl had to film and post a murder, that millions across the country had to organize and march just for George Floyd to be seen and valued is not justice.
And this verdict is not a substitute for policy change.

56 years ago, hundreds of peaceful protesters, including John Lewis, attempted to cross Edmund Pettus Bridge. They were beaten and tear-gassed by State Troopers, but they didn't give up. Today, we honor these heroes who secured voting rights for everyone and continue their fight.

If we want to come out of this jam & move #ForwardTogether, we cannot accept the racial disparities, violence & breaches that impact Black, brown, Native & Asian Americans while offering collateral damage to our poor white brothers & sisters & ultimately our entire democracy.

I just don’t understand Christians who refuse to wear a mask because they think God will protect us... but somehow they still need a gun.

"I felt threatened" and "he resisted" and "she did not comply" and "he matched the description" and "I was afraid for my life" are modern-day code words that give white supremacy a secure, reliable foothold in this generation, free of all accountability and justice.

I have so many friends who've lost loved ones to COVID-19. We've got to learn to grieve this, collectively and individually. I started reading the mini-bios out loud on today's @nytimes front page and tears started to flow. Try it. We're in the midst of a national tragedy here.
