Simon Heffer reviewing Liz Truss’s new book for the Torygraph: “Of all the books I have ever reviewed that purported to offer a serious thesis, this is without question the most deranged. If you are seeking a Christmas present for someone you really don’t like, give them a copy.”

Reply guys / bots / red wallers, the world isn't 2016 any more, the UK isn't getting special deals from the EU, US, or China, and that's 75% of UK trade.
Geography and reality mean we have to deal with the EU. Andy Burnham gets that.

Vučić was a more gracious loser today.
Predictably, Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede and asks for the runoff to be annulled. Four years ago, his father did not concede either after losing his reelection bid

Two heartening election results in which far right candidates unexpectedly defeated in Brazil and Serbia. Now come the two really big ones in Israel, then US mid-terms.

The rewriting of 2016 needs challenging.
❌ The referendum ballot did NOT ask: “Should Britain end freedom of movement?”
It asked whether Britain should remain in or leave the EU.
Nothing about leaving the Single Market.
Nothing about the customs union.
Nothing about ending free movement.
And during the referendum prominent Brexit campaigners openly cited Norway and Switzerland as models for Britain outside the EU.
🇳🇴 Norway is in the Single Market and accepts free movement.
The Leave coalition contained several completely different versions of Brexit. The public was never asked to choose between them.
So it is simply not accurate to retrospectively turn 17.4 million Leave votes into 17.4 million votes specifically against free movement.
That interpretation came afterwards.
And if Britain is now deciding what relationship it wants with Europe, voters are perfectly entitled to decide again with the actual choices made explicit.

7⃣ Nigel Farage passionately defended the idea that we could be like Norway, a Single Market country, in 2016.

You’re confusing nominal export values with real trade performance. Commons Library figures show EU goods exports were 14% below 2019 levels in 2025. Services grew, but rising total 💰 exports don’t disprove Brexit hits. The key question is what we’d have exported without Brexit.

🚨 EXPLAIN THIS! Northern Ireland kept access to the EU goods market.
Since 2019:
🇪🇺 Northern Ireland: +12.7%
🇬🇧 UK: +6.3%
Almost DOUBLE the economic growth.
If leaving the EU was supposed to make us richer, why is Northern Ireland showing the Sunlit uplands are in the EU? 🇪🇺

The EU fee was about £12.6bn a year, whereas the estimated Brexit loss of output is now roughly £170bn–£230bn a year, with an associated loss of tax revenue of roughly £65bn–£85bn a year. That makes the fee equivalent to only about 5–7% of the estimated annual GDP loss. #BrexSHIT

Vivek just released a new ad with Acton’s estranged mother that cut out the part where she claimed Acton lied about living in a tent after proof came out that she did live in a tent, so basically the bitter old hag is now just saying Acton lied at 12 about being sexually abused.

For too long, successive governments have turned a blind eye to the debilitating Brexit deal. Our farmers are charged £300 million a year in red tape to export to 500 million consumers on our doorstep. From a business point of view, it's for the birds.
