Yep nothing says ‘worker’s rights’ like joining a union your owner deigned to let you join. @GMBGarySmith
Octopus may have signed a sweetheart deal, but they haven't stopped GMB. We represent hundreds of Octopus workers and will continue organising across the business, supporting our members and pursuing our recognition campaign. GMB is here to stay.

Octopus picked a union. Its workers picked GMB. Recognition isn't something a boss hands to whichever union it prefers. It's won by the people doing the work. Our members. We're not going anywhere. 🐙✊ #MembersFirst

Two points to note: 1. Removing the elec standing charge would raise the elec unit rate and increase the spark spread again. 2. Removing standing charge is highly popular. It is also little well understood that it means an increase to the unit rate - not a reduction in bills.

You would have thought less carbon intensive gas compared to imported LNG would be welcomed by environmentalists. It is economically rational and environmentally sound to supply the UK’s ongoing gas demand through the lowest carbon-emitting sources.

Hmm not sure that repeatedly telling @KateEMcCann she “doesn’t understand your point” is the best way to promote heat pumps. Plus if you’re going to quote a report as a ‘gotcha’ then it’s probably wise to actually have it to hand. Done their point no favours #jackdaw #energy

Said it before but @Jacob_Rees_Mogg is one of the best people I have interacted with in my job. Erudite, knowledgable, and charming.
The Tucker - Jacob Rees Mogg interview shows why JRM is just a different class compared to other politicians on either side of the atlantic. Tucker repeatedly tries to catch him out by asking specific questions on the rate of unemployment, foreign born population, economic size etc etc - and Jacob answers every single one from memory without batting an eyelid.

It's being reported that Ali has received a "formal warning" from the Chief Whip, which is why he's apologising. He's an antisemite who was never held to account for the lies he told about Maccabi Tel Aviv fans when they were banned from attending a match in Birmingham in 2025.

Translation: When I called for military action against Israel I was unaware of the use of video and audio recording devices in the Commons. Nor was I cognisant of the existence of the press gallery, in which reporters cover words spoken by MPs. I had assumed that I would be able to tell my fellow Israel haters that I wanted to go to war against Israel and then be able to deny it to anyone else. I am sure objective observers will agree with me that keeping the existence of video, audio and reporting from me is just another example of the underhand behaviour of the Israelis and actually makes my case for me.
In Parliament on Monday, I wrongly gave the impression that I support the use of military force against Israel. Those are not my views, and I apologise unreservedly. I do not support military action anywhere in the Middle East and have long been a campaigner for peace and conflict resolution.

Tahir Ali said in Parliament: "Is it not about time that military action was taken against Israel as well?" after calling for Israel's disarmament. He shared video of his speech before deleting it and apologising. thejc.com/news/politics/… timesofisrael.com/british-labour…
