Canadian heavy crude is fetching near-record premiums across the Pacific, bolstering the case for the country’s plan to build a new pipeline to its west coast. A barrel of Canadian Cold Lake crude delivered to South Korea traded at a record $9.50 a barrel more than the Dubai crude benchmark in September. It’s a stark contrast to the weakening price Canadian oil is getting in the US, its biggest market. Oil sands benchmark Western Canadian Select’s discount, called a differential, to a monthly average of West Texas Intermediate futures widened to as much as $28.25 a barrel in Alberta last week, the biggest in almost four years. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Alberta supports Conservative MP David McKenzie’s Bill C-264 to repeal the federal Oil Tanker Moratorium Act and remove barriers preventing our responsibly produced energy from reaching global markets. Repealing the ban would open the door to crude-by-rail exports through Prince Rupert, giving Alberta another route to reach customers around the world. Our oil to the United States is selling at a significant discount at a disadvantage to the entire country. The only effective way to close that gap is to increase exports off our western coast and get more customers competing for our energy. For decades, limited access to tidewater has left Alberta heavily dependent on a single customer, putting our oil at a competitive disadvantage and reducing the value of our resources. The Trans Mountain Expansion has helped open new markets, particularly in Asia, but we need more pipelines and more access to tidewater. Pacific Link will help increase our export capacity, but we also need to remove the federal tanker ban to unlock opportunities through Prince Rupert. Global demand for energy continues to grow, and Alberta has the resources to help meet it. Alberta holds the fourth-largest proven oil reserves in the world, and developing those resources benefits all Canadians. They help fund hospitals, schools, critical infrastructure and social programs across the country, while creating long-term economic opportunities for Indigenous communities through investment and co-ownership in major projects. Canada cannot become a global energy superpower while federal policies continue to stand in the way of getting our energy to the world. Repealing the tanker ban is an important step toward securing better prices for our resources and building a stronger, more prosperous Canada.

What a run for Alberta (wondering if Premier Smith had anything to do with it?) - Trudeau, Guilbeault, Eby gone - Conservative BC government - Liberals adopt conservative energy superpower agenda - New west coast oil pipeline designated in national interest - TMX full and expanding - Keystone XL/ Southbow Bridger moving forward - LNG Canada Phase 2 FID’d - Natural gas gigascale data centres FID’d - Emissions cap scrapped, IAA removed from almost all O&G projects - 100% immediate and permanent expensing for capital investments And there is more to come in the weeks ahead ;) Stay tuned and watch Alberta’s economy go supernova. Leadership matters. We have it.
Imagine going back to October 2024 and telling Canadian oil & gas execs: - Trudeau, Guilbeault Eby gone - Strait of Hormuz war, WTI > $100 - Liberals adopted energy superpower agenda - New west coast oil pipeline designated in national interest - TMX full - Keystone XL/ Southbow Bridger moving forward - Conservative BC government - LNG Canada Phase 2 FID’d - Natural gas gigascale data centres FID’d - Emissions cap scrapped, IAA removed from almost all O&G projects - 100% immediate and permanent expensing for capital investments

Absolute smack down on the BC NDP. Voters are rejecting anti-resource, anti-common sense policies. Congrats to the BC Conservatives and Premier-elect Lorne Doerksen @LDoerkson on an incredible victory!

Irv Kipnes helped to build Edmonton itself, first its neighbourhoods and businesses, then its hospitals, its theatres and its concert halls. He and his family gave on a scale this province has rarely seen. Cancer research. Heart care. The Kipnes Centre for Veterans. Edmonton's symphony, opera and ballet. The Jewish community he loved and supported all his life. There is hardly a corner of Edmonton that has not been touched by their generosity. Our condolences to the Kipnes family and to everyone who loved him. Alberta is better because Irv Kipnes called it home.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, the 400-kilometre Tibbitt-to-Contwoyto winter ice road in NWT that connects the Far North to the rest of Canada will not be built — and climate change is not to blame. Instead, three of the four diamond mines the ice road supplied have closed and the fourth is scheduled to wind down ahead of schedule next year due to a global crash in natural diamond prices. financialpost.com/feature/ca…

Amazing news for our province. Huge $8 billion investment in our Canadian Armed Forces right here in Alberta. Stronger Armed forces. Tens of thousands of jobs.
Part of re-setting Alberta’s relationship with Ottawa after the Trudeau years is seeing a return of military investment in the Alberta based Canadian Armed Forces. Today’s announcement is a massive victory for our province and the country as we become a national defence hub. $8 Billion in federal investment is modernizing and expanding the bases at Edmonton, Cold Lake, Suffield and Wainwright. Today, the federal government also announced that Alberta will be home to the Western Main Operating Base for the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CC-330 Husky Fleet, putting our province at the centre of how this country defends itself. What follows is just as important. Up to 38,000 Alberta jobs. Contracts for the companies that build, maintain and supply these projects. A domestic defence industry taking root in a province that already leads in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, logistics and technology. The men and women serving on these bases are proud Canadians and proud Albertans. They deserve facilities that match what this country asks of them. When Canada needs the space, the expertise and the capacity to defend itself, Alberta delivers.

I’ve read this article twice and still can’t find anyone from the “oil sector” questioning the economics or even quoted. It is only the left-wing ENGO Pembina Institute that questions the economics of a pipeline in this article 🧐

Rushing major labour changes?? There has literally been, over the course of years, a supply chain summit, a supply chain task force, an inquiry, a commission, a senate study and consultations on this particular legislation. This reform has been sloooooow-walked until now because it is contentious with unions.
I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on.

Mining is Alberta's future and the key to unlocking our potential as an economic superpower. That's why I met with a room full of industry leaders and investors looking to convert critical minerals into jobs and wealth that will support our nation and province for generations to come. Responsible resource development, and cutting unnecessary red tape for new mining projects is essential to Alberta’s success. We are blessed with incredible resources. Now, let’s put them to work to diversify our economy, create jobs, and build a stronger Alberta and Canada.

Yesterday the Canada Investment Summit wrapped up, which I was pleased to attend alongside Premier @ABDanielleSmith, Minister @nateglubish, Minister @TaraSawyer23, along with leadership from @Invest_Alberta and many others from across the province. This event brought together some of the world’s biggest investors to showcase major projects and investment opportunities in Canada. Alberta naturally stands out as we are the economic engine of Canada with the skilled workforce, low taxes, low regulation, and resources needed for business to succeed. Every investment means new jobs that strengthen not only our province and nation, but also the incredible families who call them home. Thank you to the business leaders, investors, and all our partners who contributed to making these days in Toronto a success!

Today, I joined Premier Danielle Smith, fellow Alberta ministers, Invest Alberta and provincial business leaders to close the market at the Toronto Stock Exchange and highlight the contributions our province makes the Canadian economy.   Alberta is leading economic growth, growing our workforce faster than any other province, and attracting global investment that strengthens the nation. Seeing energy trade at near record levels shows why a stronger Alberta means a stronger Canada.

We were pleased to partner with Invest Alberta @Invest_Alberta for two exciting events today, ahead of the Canada Investment Summit tomorrow. First, we hosted a reception for international investors, entrepreneurs, and prominent global leaders, as well as federal and provincial governments officials. I shared how Alberta’s growing economy, highly skilled workforce, strong fiscal management, low taxes, and commitment to reducing red tape makes us an incredible destination for investments in all sorts of industries. Then we visited the Toronto Market Exchange where I had the unique honour of being the first Premier of Alberta to officially close the markets and witness energy stocks trading near record high levels! I reminded everyone that Alberta’s doors are always open, and Canada’s finance and investment community has a standing invite to walk on in.

Edmonton once had a waterfall seven metres higher than Niagara Falls. The water fell at a rate of 50,000 litres per minute but did not come from a natural feature. It came from a bridge. This is the story of the Great Divide Waterfall. 📸 Edmonton Journal 🧵 1/6

For all the investors circling Canadian O&G stocks: Alberta now saying publicly that a new royalty framework to incentivize greenfield production will be announced in the coming weeks to help us double production. 📈 (For all the naysayers: this is what we did for the last oil sands buildout and it worked like a charm and led to the province’s enormous royalty post-payouts today)
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has hinted the province will announce a new royalty framework this fall to help ensure a West Coast pipeline happens, despite environmental laws already being rolled back. Why isn't that enough? Smith says royalties "have worked in the past" and a way to ensure the "best investment climate."
