Did @JohnHealey_MP miss an opportunity to scrap employees NI today? Perhaps should have introduced a flat 25% basic rate charge?

That’s a resounding yes.
Does a ‘Budget for the working people of Britain’ mean more capital #tax tinkering?

The thing to remember: don't look at Budgets in isolation. Taxes have been rising since 2021. The extra tax we're paying this year is the *cumulative* result of five successive Budgets, under three Chancellors. This chart shows who's responsible & for how much.

I’m with @DanNeidle on this. If you own a £20 million business or farm, why not sell it the week before you die and buy an expensive house in Belgravia? All of a sudden no IHT.
Oxford Economics have responded to my criticism of their IHT report, on which the Conservative Party's proposal is based, by not responding to any of my criticisms:

If @andyburnham and @JohnHealey_MP are thinking of reversing the APR / BPR changes as reported, is it time to scrap #IHT but remove CGT rebasing on death? Whoever sells the assets pays the #tax.

Discussion today about extending Annual Investment Allowance to agricultural buildings., as requested by @NFUtweets Much of the allowance goes on imported machinery, would @hmtreasury get more bang for its buck if the money was spent on U.K. built infrastructure?

Lots of think tanks suggesting taxing #pensions a bit more. Why not bite the bullet, scrap employees NI and have a 25% basic rate of #tax? Catch pensions, interest and rents that currently escape NI. (Feel like a turkey voting for Christmas as I get older!).

Hi @AvantiWestCoast You’ve cancelled my 6.47 train from Carlisle. Can I get the 7.03 or the 7.46, the latter of which gets in earlier?

A lesson for @andyburnham along with cliff edges. How many people restrict income to avoid punitive #tax rates and clawback of child benefit or free childcare? Collecting less tax?
Scotland raised its top income tax rate to 48% to make the rich pay more. New HMRC data suggests the result may have been the opposite: Scotland collected about £22m less. We can't be sure, but Scotland may have fallen over the Laffer curve. 🧵:

With all the hints about tax changes coming from #Burnham supporters do you think they’ve dusted off this old report about inheritance tax? step.org/system/files/media/…

So three speakers into #semexconf26 and trade a major topic. U.K. trade deals are increasing market access for #dairy to the U.K. with little in return.

Great result but a lot of heartache, stress and expense incurred many many old people.
Following the government's announcement today raising the thresholds for APR/BPR, NFU President Tom Bradshaw (@ProagriLtd) thanks the Labour and opposition MPs who have voiced the concerns of their farming constituents and lobbied for changes to APR/BPR proposals.
