Hi. Game designer here. I’ve seen the metrics. While it’s not just you, there is a sizable number of players who spend huge amounts of time in character creation. Some will spend more than an hour there. (Thread)
Is it just me or are character creation screens nothing but a stupid, narcissistic waste of time?

Moving bones via script has become a lot easier 🦴 The animation team continues to remove skeletons from their closet in high speed, round of applause please! 👏 godotengine.org/article/desi…

I was working with someone at Unity to get all my game assets in the Unity Asset Store (available for free), that person has been terminated from their job and the project has been cancelled. How can you mess up, so so many times.

Blizzard telling people they can no longer work from home and forcing them to move to California, to one of the most expensive areas in the US, just to lay them off is really the epitome of corporate evil

Need to make some final UV touches as well as clean up the code a little, and then I’ll release it for free :) (Then one of you can add all the stuff I can’t be bothered to implement :D )
Wanted a Unity-Style trail renderer in Godot. Got this working prototype using Immediate Geometry and 100% C#. Might release this somewhere🤔

Today we check out Phantom Camera. It's an awesome #GodotEngine add-on that brings Unity's Cinemachine style camera controls (2D and 3D) to the Godot game engine. If your game uses a camera, you should really check this one out! gamefromscratch.com/phantom-… #gamedev #indiedev

Me: Can you draw a very normal image? ChatGPT: Here is a very normal image depicting a tranquil suburban street scene during the daytime. Me: Not bad, but can you go more normal than that? (cont.)

Thread of game design decisions I had to make on things that seemed obvious to me but werent during playtests. 🧵
the yellow paint is so unnecessary obviously a ladder is climbable obviously a crate is breakable why did they do this

Speaking of hot reloading, what surprised me in Godot is that script changes are synced to your running game too. And it happens instantly. Which is kinda amazing tbh. Gotta iterate fast 🏎️
that looks like hot reloading

godot will be big. its "everything is a node tree" design radically simplifies things yet is also very powerful; gdscript is more approachable than python while providing best-in-class ergonomic gradual static typing; c# makes it friendly to ex-unity folks; and it's open source!

Being able to quickly test things is vital in #GameDev, which is why I always have a developer console to type commands in (load levels, equip weapons, etc). Finally got around to putting it up on the #GodotEngine asset browser, so it's trivial to add to your project:

Pleasantly surprised with Godot so far: 1. Coroutines are nice, put await in any function and it's a coroutine. Call as usual. You can await signals! 2. Tweening out of the box 3. Useful lifecycle signals like "child_entered_tree". Was missing this in Unity, workarounds are painful 4. Groups are just better tags 5. QOL math stuff like remap() and snapped() 6. Lots of useful UI nodes 7. Support for moving platforms in CharacterBody3D?? That may come in handy
