Postdocs are critical to the research work of @IcahnMountSinai. They’ve had no raise since before the pandemic. After 14 months of bargaining now they have been forced to go out on strike. I stand strongly in solidarity with @spocuaw.
Hundreds of postdocs walked out of @IcahnMountSinai this morning demanding a contract that ensures equity. We remain united: housing and childcare are *essential* to postdocs. Can you hear us? Because #NYC did! #OnStrike #SeeYouAtThePicketLine

Manhattan rents hit an all-time high with the median for a 1 bed apartment being equivalent to 84% of a postdoc salary at @IcahnMountSinai. And yet, Sinai says they are unwilling to provide an extension of more affordable postdoc housing while bargaining continues.
NEW: Rents in Manhattan have just broken another astounding record. Avg monthly rent: * Overall: $5,142 * Studios: $3,152 * 1 bed: $4,247 * 2 bed: $6,193 * 3 bed: $10,058 We DESPERATELY need to address the affordability crisis. (And memo to the haters: Yes NYC is coming back)

In most preclinical studies we look at the expression of RNAs during the rodent's sleep phase, as animals are commonly hosted in a light:dark cycle. How would it look like if we were to check our RNAs of interest also during the wake phase? mdpi.com/1422-0067/23/20/123…

As postdocs, we voted by ~90% to form our union @IcahnMountSinai because like graduate student employees across NYC and the country we ARE workers. We are the backbone of higher education and we deserve an equal voice in our working conditions. 💪🖖 #weareworkers #unionyes
Graduate students are primarily students and trainees, not ordinary workers. Academia is a calling. I suspect unionization will tip the balance so faculty prefer, at the margin, to hire post-docs to do research in their labs rather than students. yaledailynews.com/blog/2022/…
