The top google results for “french breakfast” or “southern food”—regardless of their accuracy—is what those things will eventually become. It’s what people see and expect, in restaurants and recipes, and pressure to conform to expectations will eventually produce those outcomes.
counterfeiting was punishable by death it was so corrosive
it was Sir Isaac Newton's job as Master of the Royal Mint and dozens were executed from his investigations
Replying to @DavidDecosimo
Dennett was right, I believe, a proliferation of counterfeit people will be as corrosive to society as a proliferation of counterfeit money is to economies.

70% of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up. He rules. theatlantic.com/technology/2…

Things are moving so fast that everyone seems to have completely missed how insane it is that AI companies have been allowed to unleash agentic AI products with no regulatory guidelines.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

A major cybersecurity threat prompted a scramble Wednesday to protect websites around the world.
Government websites were among those temporarily taken offline as officials rushed to install security patches. Others remain offline entirely.
At the center of the threat is a vulnerability involving PHP, a programming language used by millions of websites.
The FBI and National Security Agency warned that hackers could exploit the flaw to take control of websites and potentially compromise sensitive information.
OpenAI says its artificial intelligence models helped uncover the vulnerabilities.

When does trash become interesting? Trash on the moon or mount everest or in space is interesting. Trash left by ancient egyptians is interesting. Trash in your kitchen or on the street is not interesting. The great pacific garbage patch is interesting. It's a spectrum
Futurama teaches us that the line between trash and not-trash is thin and ambiguous. Anything dropped on the ground becomes trash. All will eventually become trash—from trash we come and to trash we shall return. We are defined by our garbage.
