Now a short history lesson, because you brought it up: ~2/3rds of Jews who sought to immigrate to Israel from across North Africa were rejected before 1954. The highest rejection rates were of Moroccan Jews. Israel adopted a selective immigration policy, rejecting many Jewish prospective immigrants in the early years. The Moroccans were considered the worst of all the Jews, backwards, brown, dirty, etc., so they were rejected em masse, including Moroccan Jews that suffered persecution. palestinenexus.com/articles/… Consider the Vazana family, who wished to emigrate from Morocco to Israel in the 1950s, but remained in Casablanca because Israeli immigration authorities did not let them travel with two of their children classified as disabled by Israel. The family was told they should leave them behind.
