There are big news stories about the Proud Boys out there today and to be perfectly blunt about it: the group has not earned this level of coverage and it is not a group of people worth taking at their word. They are ridiculing news orgs in their chats. They think it’s funny.

It's no longer just about the Finance Bill. Free every single person who has been arbitrarily detained. Send KDF back to the barracks. Allow @IMLU_org @HakiKNCHR and @IPOA_KE to conduct independent investigations on the killings of protesters and hold officers to account.

I saw police shoot dead unarmed young men in front of Kenya's parliament. My final thoughts on a deadly day of protests

One reason why these protests have scared the government is the scope and spread. Even if every single police officer is out on the street today and every citizen is, citizens will still outnumber police, easily by a factor of more than 20 to one.
The police officers deployed in Nairobi today are clearly not from here. Ruto has brought his village mates and put them in command of the formations around parliament. I know this because the one in charge of the unit outside the supreme court tried to block me from accessing my office at KICC just now. Such cowards!

Nanjala's words from 2022 resonate today. For those caught off guard by the frustration protesters have been expressing, opinion polls in the past year offered signs: tifaresearch.com/year-end-po…

"I fear this election result does not bode well for Kenya. At best, it signifies that we’ve failed to teach our young population our contemporary histories. At worst, we’ve made a devastating mistake. The next five years in Kenya were going to be difficult regardless of who won:

Now that the trilogue madness is over, here are a few personal reflections on the #AIAct. I should start by saying that I was genuinely overwhelmed by the warm reaction at the press conference. That's a recognition that does not happen every day for a journalist.

One of the challenges with how the State Department releases atrocity determinations is that there is sometimes little explanation of what violations they found to constitute atrocity crimes. What they present on the nature & scale of crimes varies considerably among cases. 🧵
"US declares warring parties in Sudan committed war crimes". DC got what it wanted from today's news coverage of their atrocity declaration in Sudan: the appearance of even-handedness, with the RSF the ultimate beneficiary as its crimes are minimized. reuters.com/world/africa/us-…
