The case of Mohammed Abbas is a damning indictment of a broken system. By Stan Robinson Voice of Wales The 1951 Refugee Convention is an obsolete relic of the post-war era, completely unfit to deal with unvetted, illegal arrivals crossing multiple safe countries. By forcing Britain to put the rights of foreign nationals ahead of the safety of its own people, it has become a threat to national security. The timeline in this case speaks for itself: - March 2026: Abbas entered Britain illegally via a small boat from France—a safe, democratic nation. - July 2026: Convicted at Coventry Magistrates' Court for assaulting a police officer and assault by beating, he was handed community service instead of immediate deportation. - Late July 2026: The Home Office housed him in a residential property in Cardiff. - July 30, 2026: Just two days later, he broke into a home at 2:00 AM and exposed himself to two young girls in their bedroom. He has since pleaded guilty to trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence, burglary, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. This failed framework imported a dangerous criminal and placed him on the doorstep of two young children. Policy changes now are, of course, far too late for these victims, who pay the price for state incompetence. The first duty of any government is to protect its citizens. Until the Refugee Convention is overhauled to allow for automatic disqualification, immediate detention, and swift deportation of illegal entrants and offenders, Britain must cease adhering to it. Sovereign border control and public safety must come before compliance with an outdated international treaty or indeed what the Left say.
