RUSSIA–AFRICA SUMMIT KEY TO ZIMBABWE'S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA Zimbabwe's participation in the Third Russia–Africa Summit, scheduled for Moscow on 28 and 29 October 2026, presents an opportunity to secure strategic partnerships that support the country's development priorities under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030. The focus is on attracting investment, expanding industrial capacity, strengthening energy security, modernising agriculture, developing infrastructure and promoting technology transfer. As Zimbabwe pursues economic transformation, engagement with Russia should deliver practical outcomes that boost domestic manufacturing, create jobs, increase exports and maximise value from the country's natural resources. The emphasis is on ensuring that diplomatic relations translate into tangible economic benefits. The summit follows growing cooperation between Russia and African countries, with industrialisation, infrastructure development, technology transfer and employment creation identified as key priorities. These objectives align closely with Zimbabwe's development agenda and provide opportunities to secure investment, financing and commercial partnerships that strengthen productive sectors of the economy. A central pillar of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's economic policy is the drive to move beyond exporting raw minerals by promoting beneficiation and value addition. Through cooperation with Russia, Zimbabwe can explore partnerships in mineral processing, refining, metallurgy, mining technology and related manufacturing industries. Such collaboration would support industrialisation, job creation and increased retention of mineral value within the local economy. Energy, agriculture and infrastructure remain critical to sustainable economic growth. Potential cooperation in renewable energy, energy technology, fertiliser production, agricultural mechanisation, transport engineering and infrastructure development could help improve electricity supply, enhance food security, reduce production costs and strengthen the competitiveness of local industries. Under NDS2 and Vision 2030, priority should be given to projects that offer clear economic returns and direct benefits to businesses, farmers and communities. Technology transfer and skills development are equally important. Partnerships with Russian universities, research institutions and technology companies could expand opportunities in engineering, medicine, mining technology, scientific research and agricultural innovation. Such cooperation could support scholarships, research programmes, industrial apprenticeships and professional training aimed at addressing critical skills gaps and strengthening local expertise. Under His Excellency President Dr @edmnangagwa's leadership, Zimbabwe's development agenda remains focused on investment mobilisation, industrialisation, infrastructure expansion and the attainment of upper middle income economy status by 2030. The Third Russia–Africa Summit therefore offers an important platform to deepen economic cooperation and advance projects that contribute directly to national development objectives. Success will ultimately be measured by the extent to which these partnerships generate investment, expand productive capacity, create employment and accelerate progress towards Vision 2030. #RussiaAfricaSummit #Vision2030 #ZimbabweVision2030
