🇿🇼🤝🇷🇺 ZIMBABWE–RUSSIA: DEEPENING ECONOMIC COOPERATION As the 3rd Russia–Africa Summit convenes in Moscow on 28–29 October, Zimbabwe has an opportunity to strengthen bilateral trade and attract investment in mining, agriculture, energy and technology. Bilateral trade was estimated at US$80 million in 2025. Encouragingly, Zimbabwe recorded exports of US$22.2 million and imports of US$15.2 million in the first eight months of 2026, representing a US$7 million trade surplus. Under the leadership of President ED Mnangagwa, the focus is on translating longstanding diplomatic relations into mutually beneficial investment, industrialisation, technology transfer and employment opportunities. The summit offers a platform to advance shared prosperity between Zimbabwe, Russia and the wider African continent.

With Zimbabwe highlighting 8.3% economic growth, the proposed joint technical working group with PSB Bank, the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe seeks to advance discussions on trade finance. Beyond economics, more than 1,000 Zimbabwean students are studying in Russia in critical fields such as medicine, science and technology.
