I'll be voting for Olivia Chow in Toronto's mayoral election tomorrow. I'm not a leftist or progressive, but i appreciate the work she's done to make the city better. Crime is at its lowest in years, my kids love all the new parks that have been built, she pulled off a flawless World Cup... Importantly, she does not hesitate to empathize with suffering, desperate people, whether here or abroad. I suspect much of the vitriol against her is because she calls a spade a spade, and I applaud her for it. Too often this city alternates between clueless leftists and ruthless right wing opportunists. Olivia Chow is something different, more like the quiet, hardworking, competent families that make up the backbone of this city.

Several years ago, when I was a journalism student at Seneca College, I interviewed @PasternakTO during a community event @ a Jewish Community Centre; his Ward. I remember the looks; I felt so unwelcome. The interview was exhausting. He didn't smile at me once. I know why now.

WOW. TORONTO STAR REFUSES to endorse Olivia Chow. That’s a crippling blow to the incumbent mayor on the eve of election day. She’s the candidate of record for the type politics and vision the Star espouses. Brad Bradford was never going to be endorsed by the Star. And wasn’t.

Brad will cut taxes, clean out the City's reserve funds, kill the City's credit rating, deploy more cops, hand our water infastructure over to Doug Ford's friends and say "job well done" after patting himself on the back. I think we can do better.

I have my issues with Chow, but expanded library hours, cleaner sidewalks, better snow clearing, + measures against renovictions are concrete wins for Toronto following Tory's austerity.
