The hypocrisy of the Scottish Government suddenly celebrating the Jackdaw gas field is breathtaking. For years, Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP declared a climate emergency, campaigned aggressively against Cambo and Rosebank, and introduced an explicit “presumption against” new North Sea oil and gas exploration in their draft energy strategy. Did she campaign against Cambo just to make the Scottish Government's celebration of North Sea gas drilling look more dramatic? Or does Holyrood's moral crusade against fossil fuels magically dissolve into demanding tax cuts for Shell the second the Aberdeen vote starts slipping away?
