Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy and community! It was fantastic to speak with business in #Elswick about how the £20 million I’ve secured through the Government’s Pride in Place programme should be spent to support them and their growth!
Earlier today our Senior Public Affairs Lead, @RHA_Ferdy attended an @SME4LABOUR roundtable with @FeryalClark MP (Enfield North) and Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, @dantomlinsonmp.
With profit margins in the road haulage sector hovering at around just 2%, our message was clear: for many transport SMEs right now, success simply means keeping their heads above water.
During the session, we pushed for stronger support on cash flow - including reducing statutory payment terms down to 30 days for our sector - and urged Treasury colleagues to freeze fuel duty alongside targeted relief.
We also raised the growing challenge of over-devolution creating a confusing patchwork of local transport regulations for national operators. The Minister noted that upcoming devolution plans will focus on supporting key regional sectors and encouraged continued engagement on regulatory burdens.
We’ll keep ensuring the voice of commercial road transport is front and centre in every Treasury conversation.

Three years on from the October 7 attacks on Israel, we remember those who were senselessly killed by Hamas terrorists.
The impact of the attacks has been felt not just in Israel, but in Jewish communities across the world who still bear the burden of the tragic events that day.
In the years since, we have seen a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the UK.
A year ago we witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, with further attacks against Jewish people and institutions since.
I want Britain’s Jewish community to hear this from me directly. We stand with you. Abuse and violence against you, in any form, will not be tolerated. Not on our streets, not online, not in our schools or universities.
That’s why we are funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and why we will come down hard on antisemitism wherever it is found - in classrooms, on campuses and in neighbourhoods.
At home, we are committed to protecting our citizens from vile hatred. Abroad, we continue to work towards a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security.
An attack on Jewish people in Britain is an attack on all of us. Antisemitism has no place in this country, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.

It was a privilege to attend the 2026 Labour Party Conference in Liverpool and catch up with friends and colleagues from across the Labour movement.
This year’s conference marked an important moment under the new leadership of Prime Minister Andy Burnham, with a renewed focus on hope, unity and delivering meaningful change across the United Kingdom.
It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on Labour’s record in government, hear plans for the future, contribute to important discussions and strengthen relationships across our movement.
There is much more to do, but with unity, ambition and purpose, we can continue working towards a fairer, stronger and more prosperous country.
All together now — hope again. 🌹

Today we remember Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, who were killed in a despicable act of antisemitic terror.
My thoughts are with their families and all those who were affected by that terrible day at Heaton Park Synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Melvin and Adrian's deaths demand more than remembrance. Jewish people must be able to live, worship and participate fully in public life without fear. We must all unite behind that vision.
I will continue to do everything in my power to protect Jewish communities from this threat.
We cannot simply ask people to live behind higher walls. We must tackle antisemitism at its source and root it out wherever it rears its head.

Full houses across two days for @SME4Labour at Labour conference in Liverpool, as ministers, MPs and business leaders warned the industrial strategy will be judged on whether it lowers the cost of doing business and spreads growth beyond London.
Energy minister @martinmccluskey said the clean energy transition is about "giving us control over the source of energy and price", and repeated his call for a "high street test" for energy support. Economic Secretary to the Treasury @LucyRigby joined the industrial strategy panel.
Packed sessions on high streets, trade, food security, housing, AI and the Kurdish question followed, with a reception chaired by SME4Labour founder @ibrahim_Dogus and the Labour Home & Labour Friends Groups Lunch to close.
The next test is the Budget.
