At Chongming Dongtan Nature Reserve, home to 300+ bird species, I saw how biodiversity protection can support local livelihoods. Through #BIOFIN, @UNDP🇨🇳 & partners are pioneering a new index-based insurance product to help farmers manage crop losses caused by migratory birds.

Honored to be named to this year’s #TIME100Next.
The world doesn’t always expect world-class organizations to be built in Africa, especially in school feeding. We’re changing that.
Proud of @Food4Education. And thank you, Trevor Noah, for seeing us. ❤️

A thought from Tianjin this week: development is rarely a choice between tradition and innovation. After speaking at the Global Low-Carbon and Green Development Exhibition and Conference, I visited Flying Pigeon and was reminded how familiar technologies continue to evolve. Nearly a century after bicycles became part of everyday life for millions, sustainable mobility remains as relevant as ever. #LowCarbonDevelopment #SustainableMobility
“Behind every #SDG lies a critical question of ‘where’.”
Super to visit Deqing & see a great gathering of experts & partners from across the geospatial community! Encouraging conversations, great exchanges, real opportunities to strengthen cooperation for sustainable development.
“Behind every SDG lies a critical question of ‘where’.”
Opening the UN-IGIF Workshop in Deqing, @SWJacksonUN underscored how geospatial information can support climate action, strengthen decision-making, & help ensure no one is left behind.🔗 Full speech: tinyurl.com/3y23w9cc
Great to have joined the @UNDPChina‑convened seminar marking UN Day for #SSC.
#SSC thrives on equal, demand‑driven partnerships. China’s renewables, digital & poverty‑reduction experience can adapt to Global South contexts.
Let’s scale real‑world solutions for #SDG progress.
In Hangzhou🇨🇳, @UNDP🇨🇳's @stefanliller convened a green & digital #SouthSouthCooperation seminar marking 2026 UN Day for SSC. With IGD & MOFCOM, ~100 partners advanced inclusive #climate & #AI.

On #UNDay for South-South Cooperation, let us reflect on a simple but powerful idea: countries facing similar development challenges have much to learn from one another. By combining experience, innovation, financing, and partnerships, South-South and Triangular Cooperation can help scale solutions and accelerate progress towards the #SDGs.

Honoured to be with DSG @AminaJMohammed drawing inspiration from Xi'an, where ancient wisdom & innovation meet.
Her leadership on #AIandHumanDev reminds us: tech must anchor in dignity, diversity & shared values.
@UNinChina will help turn global dialogue into local action!
From the Terracotta Warriors to today’s robotics, human ingenuity has always shaped our world.
A future with more abundant intelligence than ever before is right in front of us. Whether that intelligence serves human dignity and humanity remains our choice.

Terrific panel today to mark the GDI@5 looking at China’s Global Development Initiative’s contribution to the #GlobalGoals & #SustainableDevelopment
Thanks for the great sit down with our @UN SG, @tianwei. A really good conversation about the most pressing topic: #AI opportunities & challenges
Al global governance is lagging behind tech development, I interviewed @antonioguterres @UN SG @WAIC2026 He stressed on building an inclusive, UN-led global Al governance framework, capacity-building for developing countries, open-source Al, and human oversight of Al. @UNinChina

Honoured recently to join Ambassador Wu Ken of CPIFA & UNA-China for a candid exchange on strengthening multilateralism & global governance.

AI may feel intangible, but its footprint is not.
Data centres already consume more electricity than most countries.
I’m calling on every major AI company to measure & publicly disclose the full footprint of its systems & to commit to power every data centre with renewable energy by 2030.

The annual #SDGReport makes two things unmistakably clear: the Sustainable Development Goals work. They are delivering for people — but not fast enough, not evenly and not without setbacks.
They are still within reach, but only if we act with greater urgency, solidarity and political will.
The next four years are our opportunity to accelerate progress and deliver on the promise of the SDGs.

Our AI Dialogue at Zhongguancun saw the UN China team showcase amazing @UN work using AI to drive sustainable development. I was truly impressed by the insights from Chinese experts today. This is what multilateral cooperation looks like: shared tech, shared goals, shared future.
Inspiring dialogue between @UNinChina & Zhongguancun Science City on int’l AI cooperation. UN agencies, research institutes & AI companies in Haidian District showcased cutting-edge applications and explored actionable pathways to leverage AI for priority SDGs for China & beyond.

Amongst the finest diplomats I’ve served with are women diplomats. With #InternationalDayOfWomenInDiplomacy, we celebrate the trailblazers, glass ceiling smashers, the fearless women who make peace, make deals & make history every day. Thanks HE Amb. Anyin Choo for a great event!
As we look ahead, inclusion must be embedded across all policies & partnerships, ensuring persons with disabilities help shape and lead development. This is central to delivering on the 2030 Agenda and building more inclusive, resilient societies. #LeaveNoOneBehind
Marking the close of the UN Joint Programme on Disability-Inclusive Development in China, partners gathered in Beijing to reflect & look ahead. Disability inclusion isn’t a standalone issue. It’s fundamental to human rights, sustainable dev’t & social progress. #LeaveNoOneBehind
