So exciting! Congratulations Professor Kim! And for all the people looking for an incredibly supportive, thoughtful, attentive, creative, brilliant and just ridiculously competent mentor in every facet - experimental and computational and analytical - run TO join Bernard's lab!
Very stoked to share that I am joining @Princeton EEB as an Assistant Professor in Jan 2025. If studying evolution using genomes AND popgen data from 100s of species sounds interesting, do reach out! I’ll be recruiting at all levels for work spanning field to wet lab to comp bio.

Our new study @Nature synthesizes time series on insects from sites across the world. Building on our previous work @idiv, we show that abundant species are declining faster than rarer species (richness is also declining). Expertly led by @PunksInScience

For those following the ongoing saga of Priyanga Amarasekare—a major update. She speaks out, addressing all charges! This would make for a dramatic novel or Netflix series. But no, it’s the life of our brilliant and deeply caring colleague and friend

An amazing experience at TED. So many fantastic ideas on how we create a sustainable food system that works for everyone. It revealed the complexity, but also the opportunity, of working across divides to create a sustainable future. Thanks to Gilberto Tadday/TED for the image

OK, I think we're close to decisive evidence that US bovine H5N1 had a single origin from birds, and that when related viruses from birds *have* been found, they are jumps from cattle back into birds.
Grackles, blackbirds, chickens all show mammalian adaptation like PB2 M631L.

That amazing paper you spent years on? That amazing breakthrough you had? Very likely you built this following the work of others (very few exceptions), just as others will build off yours. Science is a continuum. Want to leave a lasting legacy in science? Be generous & be kind.
