Day 22. The Cost of Inaction: Investing in Education Campaign
In Mozambique, 52 percent of women can read and write. For men the figure is 74 percent. That is a gap of 22 points, and the report behind this campaign calls it one of the starkest in the Commonwealth.
Numbers like this do not appear by accident. They come from decades in which girls, especially in rural areas, were pushed behind boys when it came to school. Early marriage, heavy work at home and long distances to secondary school still keep many of them out of the classroom after primary.
Think about what that means for a family, a market stall or a community meeting. When half the population cannot read as easily as the other half, the whole country moves slower. Medicine labels, contracts, voting papers and job notices all depend on literacy.
Targeted support for girls is not a favour. It is how a country stops leaving half its people behind.
Who in your community had to fight harder than their brothers just to stay in school? Tell us their story below.Sign up to join the campaign: lnkd.in/d77gRvE3

Ensuring quality education begins with creating a safe, respectful, and dignified learning environment for everyone.
As part of the Commonwealth Students' Association (CSA) initiative on the Student Safety and Security Agreement, my focus for East Africa is on Article III: Gender-Based and Sexual Violence.
No student should ever have to trade their safety, mental well-being, or dignity for academic success. Article III strongly champions:
🔹 Institutional policies that combat sexual harassment and eliminate practices like "sex-for-grades".
🔹 Confidential, survivor-centered reporting mechanisms and psychological support systems on campus.
🔹 Comprehensive awareness on consent and bystander intervention within student communities.
Campus safety is not a privilege; it is a fundamental prerequisite for quality education. Let’s stand together to make our campuses zero-tolerance zones for GBV!

"Turning market waste into a sustainable agricultural shield! Thrilled and proud to announce that our project, Eco-Pectin Shield, secured 3rd place at today’s hackathon. A massive step forward in empowering smallholder vendors at Mawenzi Market, driving circular economy solutions, and aligning with Tanzania's Vision 2050 and global SDGs. The journey has just begun!" 🌿💡
Food waste fuels methane emissions.
When food ends up in landfills, it breaks down and releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that drives global warming.
#StopFoodLossWaste can help cut methane emissions while saving food, money and valuable resources.
