This legislation will empower young people all across Rhode Island. We are thrilled that it is now law. Our sincere thanks to @JBoylan4RI for your leadership. The YoungDems were proud to have testified and advocated in support of this bill.
This new law will encourage young people to be engaged in our democracy by allowing a 17-year-old to vote in a primary if they will be 18 by the general election.

"Many young people in our communities are engaged and paying attention,” said Representative Boylan. “If they’ll be voting in the general election, they should have a say in who appears on the ballot. Participation among our youngest voters has historically been low, and this bill could help encourage them to get engaged and stay engaged in our democracy.”
