In a mountain state like Uttarakhand, weather warnings cannot be treated as mere formalities. Every flight carries human lives. We cannot keep waiting for accidents to happen before asking questions. There must be accountability for decisions and responsibility for the lives entrusted to those who operate and regulate these services. Disaster management must be about preventing tragedies, not just responding to them.

A helicopter carrying six people, including the pilot, has gone missing on the Joshimath-Badrinath route in Chamoli district.
The helicopter reportedly took off from Badrinath around 2:15 PM amid snowfall and lost contact near the Hathi Parvat area. The administration has expressed fears of a possible crash.
State rescue teams and the Army have been deployed for the search and rescue operation. Further details are awaited.

The "Backlog System" is a curse on societal development.
When the Govt fails to find suitable candidates for Reserved vacancies, instead of opening those posts to meritorious GC candidates, it carries them forward year after year under the Reserved category, creating a growing pile of unfilled vacancies.
The result? GC unemployment despite available vacancies, understaffed Govt departments, overburdened employees and ultimately, citizens paying the price through delayed and inefficient services, causing waste of Taxpayers' money.
It's time to abolish the Backlog System and open unfilled vacancies to meritorious GC candidates.
