"it’s my worry that in 6–12 months such a swarm could be capable of taking over the entire internet"
"I believe that if slowing down bought us even an extra year or two before models reach critical levels of capability, and we used that time to advance alignment, we could greatly reduce the risk that something goes seriously wrong"
"If we execute these measures well, I believe they would slow China’s progress enough to widen America’s lead significantly over the next 3–5 years"

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Food for thought for international and European institutions:
Apply the mechanics of how the brain functions to your institutional coordination mechanisms. Effective governance is not only about the “cortex” - the strategic and decision-making level - but also about the deeper structures that ensure coherence, regulation, communication, and adaptive response.
Something to keep in mind for your next College of Commissioners.
Recent scientific research suggests that intelligence is not localized within a specific region of the brain, but rather emerges as a complex dynamic pattern across the entire neural network.
For years, the search for a singular "seat of intelligence" dominated neuroscience, yet new data indicates that cognitive ability is defined by the way different regions are wired together.
Intelligence arises from a delicate balance of weak connections linking distant areas and centralized hubs that orchestrate global communication.
This structural organization is known as small-world topology, a design that allows the brain to maintain a high degree of specialization while remaining incredibly flexible.
This architecture ensures that information can travel efficiently across the system without overloading individual pathways.
By prioritizing the efficiency of the network over the power of any single location, the brain achieves a level of distributed processing that supports complex problem-solving and adaptive behavior.
Perhaps the most startling discovery is that this exact network architecture is utilized by fungi.
Despite having no brain or neurons, mycelial networks exhibit identical distributed processing, weak long-range ties, and modal control hubs.
This shared design suggests that "small-world" network architecture may be a fundamental blueprint for intelligence in nature, allowing both human brains and fungal systems to process information and respond to their environments with remarkable sophistication.
