Most #embryo assessment still comes down to what a 2D image shows: how many cells there are and how even they look. A new study in #CommunicationsBiology asks what the inside of each cell can add.

Can you turn a skin cell into a neuron? Does it matter whose skin it came from?
Turns out: yes. Human cells reshape more than mouse. Young more than old. But even elderly fibroblasts can be nudged neuron-ward on the right stiff surface.

Brain organoids can model key aspects of human biology. But understanding deeply how they function requires more than simply detecting activity.
High-density electrophysiology makes it possible to characterize organoid function across multiple scales, from the emergence of coordinated network activity and long-term maturation to responses to pharmacological perturbation and axonal signal propagation.
This creates a richer functional picture of the same 3D model, while preserving it for repeated measurements over time. Researchers can follow network maturation, assess responses to pharmacological or genetic perturbations, and investigate subcellular features that may be relevant to disease. All within a single longitudinal workflow.
These are just a few examples of the functional insights that high-density electrophysiology can reveal. Discover the full dataset in our latest poster featuring hiPSC-derived midbrain organoids from @STEMCELLTech.
