What if the next banana you buy is designed not to turn brown?
Scientists are using CRISPR technology to develop bananas that may stay yellow longer.
But maybe we don’t need to change the banana. Bruised bananas can become banana bread, muffins, pancakes, and more. And when food is no longer edible, compost it and give it back to the soil.

Disinformation Alert: The Truth Behind "ኢሬቻ በጣና ሀይቅ ዳር (1880)"
A photograph circulating online with the caption «ኢሬቻ በጣና ሀይቅ ዳር (1880)» and the hashtag #IRRECHA1880 is a demonstrable digital fabrication. Forensic and archival analysis confirms that the underlying image is an authentic mid-century photograph, dating to approximately 1959, depicting the traditional Irreechaa Malkaa celebration at Lake Hora Arsadi in #Debra_Zeit, not Lake Tana. The Amharic text at the bottom is a modern digital superimposition rendered in a 2000s Unicode computer font (Nyala), while the high-speed shutter capture of splashing water and moving rowers was technically impossible in the Ethiopian interior in 1880. Furthermore, the volcanic crater rim and the mid-century wooden plank rowboats are characteristic of Debra_Zeit’s crater lakes and completely incompatible with Lake Tana’s expansive topography and indigenous papyrus #tankwa traditions. Stripping a genuine cultural photograph of Hora Arsadi and fabricating an 1880 Lake Tana provenance is an irresponsible act of contextual disinformation designed to manufacture territorial claims and stoke ethnic tension. #Lake_Tana #Bahir_Dar
This post was shared by Australia-based #Oromo extremist and tribalist #Tsegaye_Ararssa, who has frequently drawn sharp condemnation for using his platform to promote hardline ethno-nationalist rhetoric directed against the Amhara community. Circulating an explicitly fabricated image to manufacture historical grievances is not academic discourse; it is deliberate disinformation intended to deepen ethnic division and stoke hostility.

Habtish the fool: Serving as a parking attendant with clean hands is far more honorable than holding a ministerial seat in service of a dictatorial regime. True integrity lies in refusing to be an instrument of tyranny.

There are moments when a song ceases to be music and becomes something else entirely. In መሬማ, Teddy Afro has given voice to a nation in quiet anguish. Watching her, those tears unguarded, that gaze carrying more than words ever could, you begin to understand. This is not performance. This is recognition.
A people dispersed. A burden carried in silence. A dignity that refuses to break.
መሬማ does not ask to be heard. It settles within you. And once it does, it does not leave.
Let the tears flow, unrestrained, like a quiet volcanic eruption from the depths of a wounded soul…

Because slavery was NOT a racialized institution in antiquity as this decontextualized image suggests. Africans were not the majority of the enslaved too. This is why we need historians studying and writing on this long history, seriously engaging visual images & material culture

Why only 400 years? African enslavement is etched on the rocks of the Nile - it continued for 5,000 years. Africa's leaders want to deny the length of the curse of slavery as it would focus attention on indigenous enslavement and slavery across the Indian Ocean
