‘No amount is too small for Imo Airport!' The collection of funds began in 1983, and I can still recall that well known fact. In those days, some individuals contributed as little as N100, while others gave up to N100,000, each giving according to their means back in the 1980s. The Peoples Club of Nigeria gave the sum of 5 Million Naira. That was a very huge amount at that time. Wow. The idea for the project came under the administration of Sam Mbakwe, who governed Imo State at that time. The Airport was originally called Imo State Airport, and later it was renamed to "Sam Mbakwe" What made it special was that this was the first airport in Africa built entirely through the joint donations of its own people. Nothing like that had ever happened before on the continent.

It's wild how uninformed we are about our own history to the point of doubting it. While the 4,000 year dates are debated, multiple independent studies have proven a 2,000 year old iron history in Lejja. Our deep history is real and the science is solid.
The 2,000 BC date is contested. Recent reteste put the date around ~ 500 BC Source: cambridge.org/core/journals/… nature.com/articles/s40494-0…

Update on my goal of publishing 1,000 Odinani Insights articles through Oma’s Garden: sloaneangelou.blog/journal I've gone well past 50% of the goal (500/1000), counting articles published on our blog and republished here on X. What's interesting is that as I review the articles to convert them into audio, I've ended up deleting at least 10% of them, either because they're not good enough or because they're unrelated to Odinani, having been written when I used the blog to explore other interests. Anyway, I've come to appreciate this process of "pruning." It's necessary, and even enjoyable, as I work towards getting the blog to where I want it to be.
My Goals for Preserving & Sharing Igbo Worldview ✯ 1,000 Odinani Insights articles through Oma’s Garden ✯ 100 profiles celebrating remarkable Igbo legends ✯ 1,000 in-depth teachings on Igbo cosmology through Odinani Mystery School ✯ 8+ tools & applications ✯ 50+ books ✯ 10 free audiobooks ✯ 10+ free films & animations ✯ 11 specialized online programs Check every box, then look back and say: I contributed my own little part to preserving and carrying Igbo worldview forward in modern times.

While preparing to work on Flora Nwapa’s main profile for the Igbo Legends series, I thought her 1988 interview with Sabine Jell-Bahlsen, five years before her passing, would make a good companion piece. I’ve shared my reflections on the interview in a piece titled 'Reflections From a Rare Interview With Flora Nwapa' sloaneangelou.blog/igbo-lege… Hope you give it a read and enjoy it. On to the next!

The steeze of Igbo culture is undeniable! From our Aka Atọ handshake to our red caps adorned with Ugbene Ugo, our Akupe, the elephant tusks and Oja flute we blow to produce spiritual sounds for the Surugede dance, everything about Igbo culture screams ROYALTY.
