One of my formative creative experiences; I was a little boy, I heard costumers in a fitting complaining about James Franco never returning his wardrobe. I looked at the new clothes they just put me in and thought, "fuck, I want to be stinky and true too." #5711AVALON #NHMLAC

My latest for @kcrw-- about @SlausonRec, the folks that make their theater, and a lil about their new play (a technical marvel pulled off during COVID, no less) Give it a listen🦻🏽⬇️

.@SlausonRec theater company steers away from what's traditional. Their latest play “5711 Avalon" uses a parking lot as a stage and is inspired by frontline workers. Co-founder Donte Johnson says he wants to make theater more accessible: kcrw.co/3o9vown

FUN-HORNS After all, if you don’t have some fun w/ us, you’re probably not getting the spirit of the work. If you can’t appreciate the insanity/wildness of our attempt here, you miss what’s freshest about us as well. 😜 #5711AVALON #NHMLAC #SlausonRec Moving past stuck.

Idk how to work with the performers of @SlausonRec but they deserve to work, perform, and have their voices heard. There is some damn talent amongst them.

Your eyes dart between in-person performance and what the eyes of the documenter sees seamlessly. It’s exciting to see Slauson Rec pull that off without a hitch. And what a fucking closing dance. Really glad I got to experience.

There’s a deep, critical thinking that must be had for this piece. This play was unlike anything I’ve seen with constant build of anxiety and pressure. It works most of all because of the commitment and flawless ness the performers move inside the world.
