It is that awful anniversary again. 32 years ago today, twenty-five people died behind locked doors making cheap chicken tenders in HAMLET, NC. This was NO ACCIDENT. They died b/c of calculated neglect. Never again.

Tomorrow is the 31st Anniversary of the HAMLET FIRE, where 25 people died behind locked doors and official neglect. Thoughts and prayers, but action too. Just this week, @indyweek reported NC remains the worst place to work in the US. @SouthernLaborSA indyweek.com/news/northcarol…

Labor historian here: Papers not reporting but the US is in the midst of biggest general strike since 1863/4. service industry gutted. If it’s not yet in your city/town, it soon will be Ppl’re not gonna work for $7/hr in a pandemic & still be in debt w no healthcare. Fuck that.
Saturday marks the first time America has ever gone 12 years without a minimum wage increase. It was $7.25 on July 24, 2009. But with inflation, it is now worth $5.76. Stop asking if businesses can afford it and start asking why workers got an effective pay cut for 12 years.

Despite a constant barrage from cheap labor lobby, most Likely Voters don't buy bogus argument there is a "labor shortage" in the U.S. They say Americans will work for fair pay and decent working conditions, 54%-33%. #AmericanWorkers 🇺🇸@realDonaldTrump rasmussenreports.com/public_…

Awesome tribute to teaching from @Philadelphian91
Our first ode in @UrbanHistoryA The Metropole's Academic Ode series comes from @Philadelphian91, who expresses gratitude for teacher/mentor Dr. Larry Little -- particularly how Dr. Little modeled how "to comfortably teach difficult history" themetropole.blog/2021/02/03…

This Day in Labor History: January 29, 1834. President Andrew Jackson orders the U.S. military to suppress workers attacking each other over scarce jobs along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal. Let's talk about the first time the US called out the military to crush labor!
