My husband and I got married in September 2026. I'm 29, and he's 32. His parents gave us a beautiful antique china set that belonged to his late grandmother. It had over 40 pieces, including plates, teacups and serving bowls. My mother-in-law handed it to us at our wedding and said it was something Grandma wanted us to have.

Since our apartment is small, we gave our old dinnerware to a young couple moving into their first home. We started using the china for special occasions and displayed some of it in our dining area.
Everything was fine until Sunday dinner at my in-laws' house. My MIL noticed the plates and immediately told me to be careful because her niece was getting married in June.
Apparently, the china was supposed to be passed down to the next newly married couple in the family.
I was confused. When I asked my husband, he looked just as surprised as I was. He said nobody had ever explained this tradition to him.
