llama.cpp carrying a hip tree that trails cuda is the quiet tax. cutlass having no amd door at all is the sharper split

Today, our CTO @ChrisKitching17 joins @GPU_MODE - one of the sharper corners of the accelerated HPC community - for a live talk on YouTube.
📅 7-8:30PM London / 11AM-12:30PM SF
Streamed via GPU MODE's Discord. If you spend your day in kernels, compilers, or wrestling GPUs from more than one vendor, come watch.

Everyone says CUDA can't target TPUs.
What they mean is nobody has written the compiler that raises CUDA code to something a systolic backend can consume.
Those are very different sentences.

CUDA isn't a standard. No consortium, no ratified spec. It's whatever NVIDIA ships next. That's supposed to be a weakness. It's why CUDA wins. The cross-vendor layer can't be a consortium either. It has to be a company. That's what we're building at @SpectralCom. SCALE compiles unmodified CUDA on AMD and NVIDIA today. No PDF to argue about — a toolchain. Some key announcements from @SpectralCom
• Run CUDA across AMD and NVIDIA
• Performance improvements that compound over time
• A shift away from single-vendor constraints

I can't express how amazing the team at @SpectralCom is! Thanks to their compilers, the CUDA-native artificial life simulator github.com/chrxh/alien can now run on AMD GPUs: scale-lang.com 🔥🔥🔥
Honestly, I never thought I'd see this happen in my lifetime 😀

I have never heard of you, but CUDA for AMD is all I needed to hear. Godspeed.

A visit to this booth is like time travel to the future.
Most people come to Booth #6552 for a free Scaley plushie.
Some come to see the same, untouched CUDA code running on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.
We don't judge your priorities. Just come say hi.
