"You have to take responsibility... The success of coaches, general managers... is riding in some part on you."
#Colts kicker Spencer Shrader on the firing of Chris Ballard, and if he and the players take responsibility:
Not defending him per se, but Chris seemed a little too nice to just be “arrogant” like I see him often labeled so much as I just think bro was a bit delusional lmao. He believed so very much in his scouting department and the players on the roster to the franchises detriment.

Quenton Nelson, 30, is in a contract year.
He was asked today about wanting to be with the #Colts long term:

My take on JT: he’s young enough, still elite, healthy and under contract for a few more seasons
The season is in the dumpster and there’s a lot of playoff teams that need a RB
You have to get to mid season with him healthy to get peak value in future seasons - this is the peak
Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson, & DeForest Buckner are the trade candidates to watch from the Colts via @By_NathanBrown & @JoelAErickson
Take: They also insinuated Seth McGowan would be the main back, so he should be rostered everywhere. Obviously somewhat speculative, but we could see some major moves here.

Rival teams believe the Colts will be open for business ahead of the trade deadline (ESPN).
The next 3 games will have a major impact on if and when the Colts decide to pull the plug. They play at Vikings and Jaguars and home vs the Cowboys before the Nov. 8 deadline.
It’s time to embrace the rebuild. There’s not really anyone who should be untouchable imo for the right price. I love a lot of our guys, but it’s past time for a different path. The current roster construction clearly hasn’t led to sustained success.

“If the Colts want to try to regain some draft capital, they could look to deal some players who they don't view as part of their future.”

Ex-#Titans DT Jordan Elliott went to his car to retrieve his gun after a practice altercation with OT JC Latham last Thursday (Oct. 15).
After being told to leave the field, Elliott took off his pads and stormed out of the facility, then went to the players' lot. Security cameras captured the sequence. Veteran DL John Franklin-Myers talked him down, and no one was hurt.
The Titans released Elliott on Tuesday after reviewing the incident. He signed a 2-year, $8M deal this offseason.
News of the incident was first reported by @eastonfreeze and additional details provided by @AaronWilson_NFL.
The #Titans have released DT Jordan Elliott following an incident at the team facility on Thursday, Oct. 15. The team reviewed the incident and says it will have no further comment.
Elliott, who has 65 career starts, appeared in five games this season for Tennessee.

(assuming it is also Steichen's last year in Indy)
Am I weird for thinking that Bob Chesney should get a real look for that job?
It would not surprise me if Carlie Irsay-Gordon and the Colts are looking at non-traditional leadership structures that are similar to a couple successful teams (and successful roster overhauls). Some very early thoughts on the upcoming GM search: nytimes.com/athletic/7707253…

October firings in the NFL are pretty rare.
But the timing of firing Chris Ballard has reason behind it:
