The Rajabi family were forced to demolish their own home in Beit Hanina, occupied Jerusalem, after Israeli authorities imposed a fine of 60,000 shekels, leaving the family of seven, including five children, without shelter.
Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem are frequently compelled to demolish their own homes under the pretext of building without Israeli-issued permits.
The UN says restrictive planning policies make it extremely difficult for Palestinians to obtain permits, leaving many at risk of displacement. Families who refuse to carry out demolition orders can face the destruction of their homes by Israeli forces and significantly higher costs.

Israeli forces struck the Islamic University in western Gaza City twice within four hours, killing three university security guards and wounding several others, including students.
Footage from Drop Site contributor Abdel Qader Sabbah shows grieving families at Al-Shifa Hospital saying goodbye to the three men. Relatives wept over their bodies and embraced one another.
“It can't be my dad. Is it my dad? My dad is gone. I want to see him,” a young boy cried. “I know, but I just want my dad.”
“Every day, every single day, we find martyrs, bombardment, and oppression. It's a deceptive ceasefire. The war has not stopped. Israeli brutality has not stopped,” Umm Rami Deeb told Drop Site.
Asked whether the increase in Israeli strikes was intended to win votes ahead of Israel's elections in two days, Deeb said she believed that was the aim. “One day, [Netanyahu] will be made to answer for what he has done to us, God willing.”

On Saturday, Israeli forces deployed thousands of soldiers in Hebron and forced hundreds of families, including children, women, older people, and people who are ill, to leave their homes and belongings without providing alternative shelter. The displacement coincided with home demolitions.

Its stone and marble, leather and footwear, plastics, glass, olive-oil, dairy, and gold sectors support jobs and livelihoods across the city and surrounding areas.
Damage to businesses, restricted movement, or disrupted access to markets can affect workers, suppliers, and families well beyond the immediate site.
