2026, and itâs still happening in British Columbia.
A recovery center bus pulls up at a Surrey-Guildford polling station. Dozens of people get off with no ID. An NDP volunteer is filmed telling them who to vote for right outside the door. The center says it only gave rides. Elections BC says vouching is legal. Nothing happens.
Same riding in 2024: NDP wins by 22 votes after nearly identical claims. Investigation finds âno deliberate fraud.â Case closed.
Photo ID isnât required. One person can vouch for another. Vulnerable people, many still in recovery, get concentrated into housing projects and bused to the polls as a group. It creates a pipeline of low-accountability votes that can decide a close race.
BC Housing keeps adding more of these facilities in the same neighborhoods. If the goal is real recovery, this doesnât look like it. If the goal is a reliable voting bloc, it works.
You can call it help. You canât call it fair.
Elections get dangerous when the advantage is legal.
