Outgoing Texas Comptroller @DonHuffines says an audit uncovered decades of failures to verify employee work eligibility.
Huffines is now calling on President Trump to send ICE into EVERY government agency in Texas.

Keep in mind that the people below the 50k tax bracket receive about 100k a year in subsidies.
Just the most fucked up system imaginable
THE IRS JUST RELEASED THE NEW 2027 🇺🇸 TAX BRACKETS. HERE'S HOW THEY WORK IN PLAIN ENGLISH
Every bracket got a little bigger to keep up with inflation, so you can earn a bit more before moving into a higher rate.
Step 1: Take what you earn and subtract the standard deduction. That part isn't taxed at all.
- Single: $16,600
- Married: $33,200
Step 2: Whatever's left gets taxed in layers.
Single filers:
- 10% on your first $12,800
- 12% on income up to $52,025
- 22% up to $109,125
- 24% up to $208,325
- 32% up to $264,550
- 35% up to $661,375
- 37% on anything above that
Married couples: the cutoffs are roughly double ($25,600, $104,050, $218,250, $416,650, $529,100, $793,650).
Example: You're single and earn $76,600. Subtract $16,600 and you're taxed on $60,000.
- 10% on the first $12,800 = $1,280
- 12% on the next $39,225 = $4,707
- 22% on the last $7,975 = $1,755
Total: about $7,742 in federal income tax, or roughly 10% of what you earned.
Even though you're "in" the 22% bracket, only your last $7,975 gets taxed at 22%.

Neither his sobriety nor his conversion are “fake” in that he believes they’re real. He’s very obviously a narcissist, in the clinical way not in the “I don’t like this bad person who gets a lot of attention way.” Sobriety and conversion select for narcissistic personality disorder.

History lesson for all the newcomers to Texas on school finance in the State of Texas.
In May 1993, under a court deadline in Edgewood v. Kirby, a Democratic Legislature (House 91D–57R, Senate 18D–13R) passed SB 7. Gov. Ann Richards signed it. “Robin Hood” recapture was born.
Austin ISD paid $0 until 2001. Then $29M.
By 2023: $908M in a single year.
Over $8.2B total, more than any district in Texas. Today about half of every Austin school tax dollar goes to the state.
This legislation bankrupts @AustinISD
For two decades the Republican #txlege trimmed around the edges (HB 3 in 2019) but never fixed the formula that hits Austin hardest.
Privately, @GregAbbott_TX loathed Austin and he mentioned on multiple occasions Austin should pay the price for it's politics.
To a lot of us in Austin, we felt this punishment.
Well, Republican leadership neglected Austin and paid the ultimate price on Tuesday.
Now Gov.-elect @GinaHinojosaTX, a former AISD trustee knows these budgets well. Now she takes office with a Democratic House.
Will she have the courage to undo what Governor Richards started and save @AustinISD ?
Imagine what our local schools could do with $908 million for facilities, teacher pay and resources.
