The United States military-security complex is extremely powerful. It needs an enemy. And of course, Russia continued in the tradition of the Soviet Union, in the minds of the American people, and so it was the convenient enemy and the big one, the dangerous one. And he simply wasn’t able to escape the power of the campaign contributions of an interest group such as the military-security complex. I think also he was trapped by the neoconservative dominance of American foreign policy, which emphasises American world hegemony. And so getting rid of Russia fits that foreign policy. It did not fit Trump’s agenda. And of course, there was no one he could appoint who represented his agenda. Because the neoconservatives have had since the George W.
