Understandable…. If you do not have assets & unable to believe you will. Next stop is full out Trotskyism.
If the midterms blue wave surprised you, generational data suggests more is coming. A recent poll shows 18-29-year-olds rate socialism higher than capitalism, with communism nearly matching it. Older cohorts reverse the pattern sharply, by 65+, capitalism clearly leads socialism, and just 5% favor communism.
Young people have real grievances. Left policies have made housing markedly harder, the median age of first-time homebuyers has climbed to 40, inflation-adjusted home values rose faster than young household incomes, and nearly half of renters are cost-burdened. Student debt tops $1.6 trillion, many recent graduates are underemployed relative to their degrees, and the gap between the cost of a stable middle-class life and entry-level wages feels wider than for prior generations.
Yet the preference shift also tracks long-term exposure to left-leaning institutions and indoctrination. Faculty surveys consistently find roughly 60% of professors identifying as left-leaning, with conservatives around 12% overall and far lower ratios in the social sciences and humanities. Democrat-to-Republican donor and registration ratios among faculty often run several-to-one or higher.
In journalism, a Syracuse University study found only about 3.4% of American journalists identify as Republicans, versus 36% Democrats and a majority as independents, a sharp decline in Republican identification since the 1970s. Major national outlets are rated left-leaning by multiple bias trackers.
Economic pressure is real, but the institutions shaping mindsets and information over the last two decades have been heavily skewed left. The combination produces the numbers we see. Isn’t it ironic that choosing socialism wouldn’t solve any issues young people face? In reality socialism would make them much worse, as it always does. It is difficult to understand though, when one is permanently exposed to left indoctrination in academia and media.

Via Panmure Liberum. Horrible... YTD 13% of the market cap of the FTSE Small Cap has been taken out through bids. The result? We now have below 100 stocks in the FTSE Small Cap ex ITs and on average, 11 stocks have delisted in that segment each year for 30 years. Small caps are vanishing..

So markets had expected a Bank of England rate hike to 4%; but vote forecast was for 7-2, with 2 voting to hold. Instead, 8 members voted to hike by the quarter point, and 1 went for a full half-point. So quite a bit more hawkish than expected.
Sort of predictable….
