Brought to mind the Dorothy L. Sayers poem, The English War — ‘Kent stands sentry in the lane/Fenland guards her dyke and drain’… @DefenceAssoc @RSStGeorge @LBFlyawayhome @BetjemanSociety @thorneh @DerekTurner1964
Rooks are busy at this time of year, of course, but the jay seems so rare these days. @RSPBCymru @Natures_Voice @DerekTurner1964 @mallingmatters
Wonder if the Falkland Islands has any form of classical orchestra? A Port Stanley Sinfonia or chamber ensemble? @FalklandsGov @FalklandsinUK @BBCSO @SinfoniaOfLondn @CityLdnSinfonia @PetrocTrelawny #Falklands
Love that beam of late-in-the-year sunlight. @edward_parnell @IrelandVisit
St Patrick's in Wexford, dest. 1649. The churchyard holds bodies from 1798, inc. the head of Dr John Colclough (who asked to be executed wearing his coat to appear "decent"), and "Tom the Devil", Tom Honam of the North Cork Militia, who devised the 'pitch cap', when boiling tar was poured over rebels
Perhaps the BBC should credit Britain & the Nelson-created Royal Navy for the abolition of the slave trade? And what about 18th-century West African countries/kingdoms which actively participated in the trade? @BBCWorld @BBCNews @DefundBBC @GBNEWS @KemiBadenoch @sophieraworth
Vaughan Williams, Five Variants of Dives & Lazarus on Radio 3 Unwind channel. RVW used this tune in a score to the immediate post-WW2 film, the 20-minute or so ‘Dim Little Island’. (Wessex Films.) @RVWinfo @robertflute @ArcheryPromos @BBCRadio3Unwind @BBCRadio3 @WessexAthelstan

The King and Queen — effortless dignity, diplomacy and support from people wherever they go. Unlike a typical occupant of 10 Downing St. @GBNEWS @ChrisMasonBBC @PatrickChristys @KemiBadenoch @RSStGeorge @RafHM @AllisonPearson @UIBCampaign @Royalist_Today
🇦🇬⛪️The King and Queen arrive at St John’s Pentecostal Church House of Restoration in Antigua and Barbuda for a church service marking 45 years of Independence, and celebrating the Commonwealth ahead of #CHOGM2026.
Would love to see a Countryfile, with people tucking into steak and kidney pudding, or roast beef. Sadly, it’s all about veganism and repurposing farms. ‘It’s our BBC…’ @CountryfileMag @CAupdates @NoFarmsNoFoods @NFUCymru @christopherhope @NFUCountryside @CPRESurrey

Disorder & instability spread across Europe: cost of living crisis there, too, & youth unemployment. Yet Burnham/BBC/Angela Rayner/Remainiacs think that the EU is the answer to our problems! @andyburnham @GBNEWS @ChrisMasonBBC @KemiBadenoch @GarethBeerMS @christopherhope #EU

A unique moment on #ExerciseCambrianPatrol2026 when The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas became the first musicians to take part in the iconic event.
The team kept a steady rhythm all the way for a hard-fought and very impressive medal finish.
