Iโve taken the decision not to stand as Lib Dem candidate in Edinburgh West at the next GE. It has been a fantastic decade. I want to thank @EdwardJDavey for all his support over the years. Iโm confident our next chapter will be even more successful and Iโm sad I wonโt be there.

Another one seemingly out of their depth. It's a good job for the SNP that most voters largely ignore what's going on at Holyrood and this stuff is rarely picked up by UK media. The SNP moan about the lack of UK media coverage of Scotland. It's actually a blessing in disguise

This is all well understood. Sadly, thanks to social media bullies, cowardly, short-sighted and frankly stupid politicians and targeted indoctrination, the opposite narrative prevails. Of course illegal settlements should not be tolerated. But Hamas do not want a two state solution, as they have repeatedly demonstrated. They - and their paymasters in Tehran - will accept nothing less than the total annihilation of the Jewish state and they donโt care how many people they put in harmโs way to get there. This government is playing into their hands and using the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians to win votes. This latest move by @Ed_Miliband will benefit no one in the region, least of all Palestinians. But it will make those north London dinner parties more tolerable for our foreign secretary and prime minister. I never thought I would say this, but come back @DavidLammy, all is forgiven.

How to a hobble a generation of school children via political tribalism. Rather than focus on basic standards, the SNP preferred to scream "Toarrrry" at the likes of @michaelgove and those who argued for a knowledge-based curriculum. The result..

2) England is a rare exception.
During the 2010s many other countries (including the other 3 UK nations) changed tack, experimenting with ideas like transferrable skills instead of focusing on tried-and-tested disciplines and methods. It looks like those experiments have failed.

We are sitting late @ScotParl tonight debating our concerns about the location of AI data centres & @RealStephenKerr & I are here speaking up for our constituents in Auchtertool in Fife. Such a pity not a single @scottishgreens MSP could be bothered to turn up to contribute.

Not everything has to be looked at through the lens of discrimination.
Conservatives managed to choose our first woman leader 51 years ago. Meanwhile Labour are celebrating Andy Burnham as their first female Prime Minister.
Claire has been promoted because she is excellent and Conservatives believe in meritocracy.
If Harriet is worried about discrimination, there is plenty in her own party to keep her busy.
Boris Johnson promoted me to the Treasury while I was on maternity leave in 2020. Nobody did a podcast episode on it because we didnโt think it was remarkable. He just knew I could do the job.
Women do not need patronising theories to explain their success. That is the point.
Time was, @ClaireCoutinho, that women had to conceal pregnancy, fearing the sack. We fought against maternity discrimination so that women could be promoted on merit not sacked for pregnancy. Iโm glad youโve escaped mat discrimination. But itโs still a problem. How about siding with us to banish it? @ThenScrewed

We've been talking on the pod and at the show about how politicians can't grasp second order effects. A new example. 300% council tax premium on second homes in Edinburgh. MSPs not exempt. A few years ago your seconf home will woudl have been 2k. Now it will be around ยฃ16k. holyrood.com/news/view,edinbโฆ

I am alarmed by the views expressed by a Scottish Greens MSP that is circulating on social media where they say that rape is a โspectrumโ.
I am absolutely clear that there is no spectrum of rape and know that there is certainly (1/4)

Itโs not as you say.
Heriot-Watt has already filled its quota of Scottish government-funded places for Scottish-domiciled students for the current intake cycle. As a result, it has closed its clearing process to additional Scottish applicants.
This is the price you pay for no tuition fees.
With no price mechanism to ration places, Scot Gov rations by quotas instead, placing a strict cap on the number of Scots that can go to university. The cap is determined by the size of the budget Scot Gov has allocated to pay for Scottish student places.
It is a very bad system. Scottish universities can take as many English and foreign students as they like (they all come with fees) โ and they take a lot. But not as many Scottish students as they like. So many miss out.
