Robert Jenrick is pathetic. It’s not that difficult to see, nor say, that these comments about Kemi are racist. What a coward.
‘Is calling Kemi Badenoch a “Nigerian scammer” racist, yes or no?’ ‘…I’m not on your show to talk about what a journalist has tweeted.’ Reform's Robert Jenrick refuses to engage with @Lewis_Goodall's question about Raheem Kassam's comments on the Tory leader.

EXCL: Nigel Farage’s newest billionaire donor was in business with a powerful Iranian religious foundation under the authority of the country’s supreme leader, raising questions about his past dealings with the hardline republic. Hossein Ghandehari, also called Sasan, was little known in the UK until he pledged to give millions to Reform UK this summer and donated £50,000 to Farage to cover the cost of two passes for the Davos World Economic Forum. Thank you, Prime Minister for highlighting how vulnerable our care sector was going into the pandemic. @andyburnham will you meet with bereaved families to discuss turning the Covid Inquiry's care report into real change?

I remember watching you as Social Care Minister, hand-wringing, blame-shifting, with empty platitudes while people begged for action on social care. You kicked that can even further. You were part of a government that discharged patients into care homes during Covid, with the devastating consequence of the 43,000 deaths of pensioners. The care for those sick & infected pensioners wasn't there, so they were sent back to their care homes to infect the other residents. More than 230,000 people in the UK died with Covid, your government oversaw that. The elderly & disabled dying in much higher numbers. Austerity & cuts to disability benefits has been linked to hundreds of thousands of excess deaths, some through suicide, neglect and starvation. Policies brought in by your government. People are judged by how they treat others, politicians & leaders for the policies they implement that will lift up the quality of life for all. How many ruined lives are enough? How will history judge you, @Helen_Whately?
One to watch. Andy Burnham wants to introduce free social care (excluding residential costs). That will be monumentally expensive. Demand will also grow. Who will provide the extra care? Relying on migrant care workers - rather than paying better to attract more British people to work in social care - would be some form of mitigation against that huge cost. Though of course his free care plan is years away. He could just kick the can down the road like he is for every other difficult decision.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT. When I recently posted ‘DO NOT pull apart the upcoming 8-page Reform newspaper going out to 15m homes across the country so it’s in individual sheets, before sending them to Reform’s freepost address one at a time. If enough people do this it would cost them a fortune, which is very bad and unfair,’ I was making a satirical point and was absolutely not endorsing actually doing so, as per this example that has appeared under my post. DO NOT. NOT.

The country is going down the pan and our Prime Minister is faffing around tweaking parking tickets. What is the point in Burnham if he refuses to touch the big issues like the ballooning benefits bill?

This is what billionaire ownership of the media means: Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta shut down the No Kings account for hours during the height of their protests. Meta suppressed accounts supporting Brazil President Lula da Silva in the recent election. Larry Ellison’s TikTok blocked advertising for a documentary criticizing Elon Musk. Fight back. Defeat oligarchy. Preserve democracy.

Why are peatlands burning? Indonesia’s estimated 24.2 million hectares of peatland are vulnerable to fire, with 16.4 million hectares degraded and at risk. The primary cause is industrial-scale plantations for timber, pulp and paper, rice paddies and palm oil. To cultivate these lands, Indonesia drains peatlands with extensive canal networks stretching about 285,000 kilometres. This drainage leads to water flowing into rivers or the sea, leaving the dried peatlands susceptible to burning, particularly during severe El Niño years that bring drought to Indonesia. phys.org/news/2026-10-indone…
