💭 about 🍀: 1/ Not trying to throw shade at @GuyRaz. @HowIBuiltThis podcast is so inspirational for me and other aspiring entrepreneurs. But a pet peeve will always be his closing question to ppl who spend years / decades building businesses of whether luck OR skill = success
So the frontier labs are not great accelerating crazy ARR growth, but could be fairly good at bringing down the internet
OpenAI models helped researchers—operating as part of our Patch the Planet initiative—discover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites.
Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors.
Due to the severity of these flaws and PHP’s widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact.
This is an example of the Defender’s Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
OpenAI may claim a role in the coordinated response and patching process. But the initial discovery and exploit development, however, occurred several months earlier by an independent researcher.

In jail for what?
On the Bulwak podcast, Kara Swisher says Elon might already be in jail under Kamala Harris, and "he knows what's coming for him."
Another one to put in the "what Democrats plan to do if they take power" file:
"If Donald Trump loses the House and the Senate, I would worry. I'd be worried if I were him."
"So they're going to start investigating again. You think he's not on the list? He's at the top of that list."
"He has a very big sense of fate. And I think it's coming for him. And real hard."
They're all just saying this stuff out loud now. There are no secrets about what they want to do.
If this is true then cold email is even more fucked than it is now, which is fucked
a big take I've been noodling on and I’m ready to call:
the newsletter is dead
@every's core business is a newsletter with 120k+ subscribers so I don't say this lightly.
persistent agents mean i dont look at my inbox
with dots (GrokBots, Muse, etc) I almost never look at my inbox. if I do it's for a specific thing I need to reply to.
i think in a year I'll be doing all of my email this way - fully filtered by my dot / something like it.
this is not new: it's a continuation of the trend of having a “newsletter” folder in Gmail, but 10x more filtered.
what it means
It doesn’t mean people won't read newsletters, but it does mean that getting a person’s email is no longer the guarantee that you have a relationship with them that it used to.
luckily, with persistent agents (and AI coding more generally) there is an entirely new playing field to build relationships with readers. instead of fighting to get an email address, publishers and creators will need to make sure we're installed in our reader's agent harness of choice, so that they get directly notified when we do something new.
we're already starting to experiment with this @every with our MCP and the frontier alerts we send users of our slack agent (every.to/agent)
it's also more affordable than ever for publishers and creators to build their own platform ecosystem: you can have your own website, app etc. and you can use AI to publish 100x more high-quality stuff to your community—so we may see a world where many creators themselves are running their own little empires that have their own apps, feeds etc.
to be clear: It'll take a while before this actually happens, but the idea of getting someone's email creating a direct relationship with them is over.
here's a set of predictions I made 3 years ago about AI and media that panned out pretty well: every.to/chain-of-thought/we…
This seems like an incredibly salient and basic point that I haven’t heard articulated before
Selling your company's data for (less than a few years' revenue of) cash is the most retarded, short-termist thing you could do, and everybody seems to be doing it.
The more data you sell to an AI lab, the more likely your entire company will be one-shotted by the next model.
The labs must think they are getting away with murder, because they essentially are.
It's especially goofy given @thinkymachines, @PrimeIntellect and others help you train your own models to keep all the benefits of automation in your business to yourself.
This is full on a different company with a massive ambition, outside of finance.
Surprised more people aren’t talking about this.

SECRETARY RUBIO: We should marvel at what our forefathers carved out of this countryside. The story of our civilization is the greatest story ever known to man. And it began here, with the first men and women of the West. From them, from them we can rediscover the virtues, the courage, and the strength to confront the dangers that we face in our time.
Agree. Immigrants who want to assimilate and are qualified to contribute to a country should not be controversial.
Listening to @patrick_oshag invest like the best. Great share on Instinct. Smart kid. It’s clear some VC’s will lose a ton money. In the infancy of agents and just chose to dumb billions at absurd valuations to compete with incumbents with massive assets and talent vs 14 kids.

Had this man not found the courage to fight back after being repeatedly attacked with an axe capable of cutting through metal—while bleeding profusely—and had the presence mind to trigger the hijack/emergency code, initiate the emergency response and open the cockpit door to allow passengers to assist him, the aircraft’s subsequent dive could have had catastrophic consequences.
Had that aircraft not been recovered, the geopolitical consequences for the Middle East could have been profound and potentially irreversible.
Sometimes history turns on the courage, resilience and presence of mind of one person.
Yes. One Indian man.
“Surely VCs understand these unit economics” might be a stretch
I’m very excited!
I feel like I’m totally missing something and the unit economics do not (and will never?) make sense.
Grok bot / muse and the upcoming openai and Anthropic ones will all be undifferentiated. However they all pay inference costs and Instinct pays API costs (10x more).
I am of course open to be missing something. If he is right its going to be so legendary it’ll be worth being wrong!
Surely VCs understand these unit economics and yet have poured money into this thing after talking w him.
Can’t wait to hear this!
This is an excellent read.
I don’t completely agree with the thesis.
There’s a massive opportunity to improve businesses with AI. Yet most people in enterprises aren’t doing this effectively.
It’s tough to believe that someone without experience an industry would be able to come in and transform it. It’s a search fund with a more difficult challenge behind its
There are two ways you can make money with this same thesis:
(1) AI implementation: actually helping implement AI and capturing service revenue and perhaps ownership along the way
(2) Transforming and owning companies: could definitely work and provide upside, but need to actually have the capability to map workflows, change them, and grow enterprise value
