Tells you something about societal values. The Chinese already have a massive lead in terms of Science and Technology, bolstered by several pro-research policies. If they continue with this kind of social approval, no country will be able to beat them for the next few centuries.
🚨 China is replacing celebrities and advertisements on giant public screens with scientists. Something we can emulate.

youtube.com/watch?v=zoGtIold… Navin Kabra (@NGKabra), Ashish Kulkarni (@AshishPonders) and yours truly sat down for a fun-filled chat on how AI is affecting teaching and research in Higher Education Institutes. I have never laughed so much during a podcast as I did in this one!

youtu.be/MATVMlaKnlk A meandering 3 hour chat on AI with Madhur Mangalam. Compared to the previous two podcasts with him on the topic, this one is more relaxed, nerdy and frequently goes off topic.

The next Pune Knowledge on Tap will be on Thursday, 23 July, with Prof. Sutirth Dey, on "Being creative in the era of AI" @SutirthDey *Abstract*: Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is now capable of producing artifacts like poems, essays, paintings, scientific hypotheses and informed critiques. In many cases, the quality of these artifacts is such that it is difficult to tell the difference between human and AI generated outputs. What does this imply for the poets, writers, painters, scientists etc? Should they just migrate to jobs that do not involve competing against Gen AI? Should you bother about this issue if you have not thought of yourself as a creative person and your work hardly requires more of you than a tidy powerpoint presentation? These questions do not have generally accepted answers and I do not claim that I am any better. I will simply present my own biased / opinionated thoughts and try to send you home with your own. *About the Speaker*: *_Sutirth Dey_* is a Professor of Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. He works in the field of ecology and evolution. For the last three years, he has been interested in Artificial Intelligence and trying to contemplate its impact on research, teaching, and society in general.
